Ivabradine toxicity: a case report

Kavisha Singh, Muthukumar R. Alagarraju, Carl E. Wolf, Justin L. Poklis, Nitin Kulkarni, William Tharpe & Parag H. Joshi
Abstract Background We describe a case of symptomatic bradycardia resulting from ivabradine toxicity by measurement of ivabradine levels, of which there are limited reports in the literature. Case presentation A 43-year-old White female presented with several days of near syncope and dizziness accompanied by a drop in her heart rate to 50 beats per minute. She was taking ivabradine for inappropriate sinus tachycardia. After excluding several other causes of bradycardia, we made the diagnosis of...

RNA binding protein HuR protects against NAFLD by suppressing long noncoding RNA H19 expression

Yanyan Wang, Yun-Ling Tai, Grayson Way, Jing Zeng, Derrick Zhao, Lianyong Su, Xixian Jiang, Kaitlyn G. Jackson, Xuan Wang, Emily C. Gurley, Jinze Liu, Jinpeng Liu, Weidong Chen, Xiang-Yang Wang, Arun J. Sanyal, Phillip B. Hylemon & Huiping Zhou
Abstract Background NAFLD has become the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. Human antigen R (HuR), an RNA-binding protein, is an important post-transcriptional regulator. HuR has been reported as a key player in regulating lipid homeostasis in the liver and adipose tissues by using tissue-specific HuR knockout mice. However, the underlying mechanism by which hepatocyte-specific HuR regulates hepatic lipid metabolism under metabolic stress remains unclear and is the focus of this study. Methods Hepatocyte-specific HuR...

Construction and crystal structures of pillar[5]arene-based bis-[1]rotaxanes via quadruple hydrogen bonding of ureidopyrimidinone

Lu Yang, Cui-Yin Nie, Ying Han, Jun-Mei Ye, Wenlong Liu & Chao-Guo Yan
A series of the functionalised pillar[5]arene ureidopyrimidinone derivatives were successfully synthesised by the condensation reaction of mono-amido-functionalised pillar[5]arenes with 2-(1-Imidazolylcarbonylamino)-6-methyl-4-pyrimidinone in dry chloroform. 1H NMR, 2D NOESY spectra and single crystal structure clearly indicated that novel [1]rotaxanes were formed by insertion of longer alkylene chain into the cavities of the pillar[5]arenes. On the other hand, the ureidopyrimidinone-functionalised pillar[5]arenes tend to form the dimer in chloroform and in solid state through the self-complementary quadruple hydrogen bonding...

The mitochondrial genome analysis of a stonefly, Nemoura longicercia Okamoto, 1922 (Plecoptera: Nemouridae)

Shuo Gao, Guochang Wang, Xuan Wang, Hao Yuan & Ying Wang
To better understand the diversity and phylogeny of Nemouridae, we sequenced and annotated the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Nemoura longicercia Okamoto, 1922. The entire mitochondrial genome of N. longicercia was 15,728 bp. It contained 37 representative genes (22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs)) and a control region. In this genome, 23 genes were found on the heavy strand (H-strand) and 14 genes were on the...

RBM10 regulates alternative splicing of lncRNA Neat1 to inhibit the invasion and metastasis of NSCLC

Shan Cong, Xin Di, Ranwei Li, Yingshu Cao, Xin Jin, Chang Tian, Min Zhao & Ke Wang
Abstract Background Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for more than 85% of the total cases with lung cancer. NSCLC is characterized by easy metastasis, which often spreads to bones, brains and livers. RNA-binding motif protein 10 (RBM10) is an alternative splicing (AS) regulator frequently mutated in NSCLC. We found that there were multiple peak binding sites between RBM10 and long non-coding RNA nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (LncRNA Neat1) by crosslinking-immunprecipitation and high-throughput sequencing...

Assessing the test-retest reliability, predictive validity, and incremental validity of the Comprehensive Assessment of Vengefulness.

Drew Parton, David Chester & Michael Crowe
Individuals differ in their predispositions toward seeking revenge—their vengefulness. Although the psychological antecedents and contextual factors that promote revenge have been widely studied, the structure of vengefulness has received less focus. The first phase of this project attempted to expand and clarify the taxonomy of vengefulness by using a hierarchical exploratory factor analysis on a battery of some of the most common vengefulness measures. The second phase used item response theory analysis to distill brief...
