Labels strengthen motor learning of new tools

Francois Foerster
These scripts and datasets correspond to the behavioural data of the study "Labels strengthen motor learning of new tools". Participants learnt how to manipulate novel tools either associated with a name (ie. a label). Results show that adding a label to a novel tool reinforces the learning of the tool use throughout practice (SuccessTask script). Moreover, the label influence the participants' ability to move or use the tool (ReactionTimes script).

IS-mediated mutations both promote and constrain evolvability during a long-term experiment with bacteria

Jessika Consuegra, Joël Gaffé, Richard E. Lenski, Thomas Hindre, Jeffrey E. Barrick, Olivier Tenaillon & Dominique Schneider
The long-term dynamics of IS elements and their effects on bacteria are poorly understood, including whether they are primarily genomic parasites or important drivers of adaptation by natural selection. Here, we investigate the dynamics of IS elements and their contribution to genomic evolution and fitness during a long-term experiment with Escherichia coli. This data set includes the Rmd file to analyze the genomic and metagenomic data (Tenaillon et al. 2016 and Good et al. 2017)...

Genotype count for all coding variants in type I IFN genes investigated in 659 life-threatening COVID-19 patients and 534 asymptomatic/mild infected controls

Aurélie Cobat
Clinical outcome upon infection with SARS-CoV-2 ranges from silent infection to lethal COVID-19. We have found an enrichment in rare variants predicted to be loss-of-function (LOF) at the 13 human loci known to govern TLR3- and IRF7-dependent type I interferon (IFN) immunity to influenza virus, in 659 patients with life-threatening COVID-19 pneumonia, relative to 534 subjects with asymptomatic or benign infection. By testing these and other rare variants at these 13 loci, we experimentally define...

Sphingomyelinase Disables Inactivation in Endogenous PIEZO1 Channels

Endogenous PIEZO1 channels of native endothelium lack the hallmark inactivation often seen when these channels are overexpressed in cell lines. Because prior work showed that the force of shear stress activates sphingomyelinase in endothelium, we considered if sphingomyelinase is relevant to endogenous PIEZO1. Patch clamping was used to quantify PIEZO1-mediated signals in freshly isolated murine endothelium exposed to the mechanical forces caused by shear stress and membrane stretch. Neutral sphingomyelinase inhibitors and genetic disruption of...

NFAT transcriptome in T-ALL

Christine Tran Quang & Diana Passaro
T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is an aggressive malignancy with few available targeted therapies. We previously reported that the phosphatase calcineurin (Cn) is required for LIC (leukemia Initiating Capacity) potential of T-ALL pointing to Cn as an interesting therapeutic target. Calcineurin inhibitors have however unwanted side effects. NFAT transcription factors play crucial roles downstream of calcineurin during thymocyte development, T cell differentiation, activation and energy. Here we elucidate NFAT functional relevance in T-ALL. Using murine...

Lee and Daunizeau choice data from: Trading mental effort for confidence in the metacognitive control of value-based decision-making

Douglas Lee & Jean Daunizeau
Why do we carefully ponder some decisions, but not others? In this work, we derive a computational model of the metacognitive control of decisions or MCD. In brief, we assume that fast and automatic processes first provide an initial (and largely uncertain) representation of options' values, yielding prior estimates of decision difficulty. This uncertain value representation is then refined by deploying cognitive (e.g., attentional, mnesic) resources, the allocation of which is controlled by an effort-confidence...
