Data from: A genome-wide functional genomics approach uncovers genetic determinants of immune phenotypes in type 1 diabetes

Xiaojing Chu, Yang Li, Cees Tack, Anna Janssen & Hans Koenen
Background: The large inter-individual variability in immune-cell cell composition and function determines immune responses in general and susceptibility to immune-mediated diseases in particular. While much has been learned about the genetic variants relevant for type 1 diabetes (T1D), the pathophysiological mechanisms through which these variations exert their effects remain unknown. Methods: Blood samples were collected from 243 patients with T1D of Dutch descent. We applied genetic association analysis on > 200 immune cell traits and...

Efficient synthesis of 3-hydroxy chromones via oxidative cyclization mediated by lipase

Jiapeng Li, Yue Yu, Yaning Xu, Fengxi Li, Yuqi Liu, Yifei Sun, Chunyu Wang, Peng Chen & Lei Wang
In this work, an efficient synthesis of 3-hydroxy chromones was accomplished through oxidative cyclization mediated by lipase. This enzymatic process has salient features of environmental friendliness, mild reaction condition, satisfactory yield, green reusable biocatalyst, and short reaction time. The proposed method expands the application of lipase in organic synthesis.

Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by regional reductions in cerebral blood flow (CBF). Although the gold standard for measuring CBF is [15O]H2O PET, proxies of relative CBF, derived from the early distribution phase of amyloid and tau tracers, have gained attention. The present study assessed precision of [15O]H2O derived relative and absolute CBF, and compared precision of these measures with that of (relative) CBF proxies. Dynamic [15O]H2O, [18F]florbetapir and [18F]flortaucipir PET test-retest (TrT) datasets with eleven,...

Jenkins
Abstract Objective To compare colorectal cancer (CRC) incidences in carriers of pathogenic variants of the MMR genes in the PLSD and IMRC cohorts, of which only the former included mandatory colonoscopy surveillance for all participants. Methods CRC incidences were calculated in an intervention group comprising a cohort of confirmed carriers of pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in mismatch repair genes (path_MMR) followed prospectively by the Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database (PLSD). All had colonoscopy surveillance, with...

Clinical outcomes of mild versus moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest with antegrade cerebral perfusion in adult aortic arch surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Lei Wang, Guodong Zhong, Xiaochai Lv, Yi Dong, Yanting Hou & Liangwan Chen
ObjectivesIn adult aortic arch surgery, moderate hypothermic circulatory arrest (HCA) with selective antegrade cerebral perfusion (SACP) (MoHACP) is widely used, but the application of mild HCA with SACP (MiHACP) is still controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to compare clinical outcomes using MiHACP or MoHACP.MethodsStudies comparing outcomes of MiHACP or MoHACP in adult aortic arch surgery were searched from four databases from inception through April 2022. Primary outcomes were postoperative permanent neurological deficit (PND), temporary neurological deficit...

3D bioprintable methacrylated carrageenan/sodium alginate dual network hydrogel for vascular tissue engineering scaffolding

Anduo Zhou, Yasong Hu, Chongshuai Chen, Heyi Mao, Lei Wang, Shanfeng Zhang & Xia Huang
3D printing technology has significant advantages in the processing field of vascular tissue engineering. We have developed KCMA/SA hydrogels based on methacrylated carrageenan (KCMA) and sodium alginate (SA), which have low viscosity and shear thinning properties and can be used for 3D printing. The physicochemical double cross-linked network structure leads to good mechanical properties. The composite hydrogels maintain the liquid crystallinity of KC, which causes the HUVECs to align. The KCMA/SA gel filaments printed by...

Pilots’ mental workload variation when taking a risk in a flight scenario: a study based on flight simulator experiments

Lei Wang, Shan Gao, Wei Tan & Jingyi Zhang
Pilots’ operation behavior in flight is associated with their mental state variables such as workload, situation awareness, stress, etc. The objective of this study was to investigate the dynamic process of mental workload for pilots who perform a risky flight task in simulated scenarios. Two empirical experiments were conducted to address this issue. In experiment one, 19 trainee pilots divided into high-risk and low-risk groups performed a target-search task in a low-altitude visual flight. The...

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the injuries of spleen and intestinal immune system induced by 2 Gy 60Co γ ray in mice. Materials and methods: A total of 120 Balb/c mice were randomly divided into two groups: blank control (Ctrl) and model (IR). The IR mice were exposed to a single dose of total body irradiation (2 Gy, dose rate: 1 Gy/min) and sacrificed on 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th and...

Cross-site collaboration on infection prevention and control research—room for improvement? A 7-year comparative study in five European countries

Vanessa M. Eichel, Christina Brühwasser, Enrique Castro-Sánchez, Gabriel Birgand, Erik Bathoorn, Florian Salm & Nico T. Mutters
Abstract Background The spread of SARS-CoV-2, multidrug-resistant organisms and other healthcare-associated pathogens represents supra-regional challenges for infection prevention and control (IPC) specialists in every European country. To tackle these problems, cross-site research collaboration of IPC specialists is very important. This study assesses the extent and quality of national research collaborations of IPC departments of university hospitals located in Austria, England, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, identifies network gaps, and provides potential solutions. Methods Joint publications...

Abstract Background Glioblastoma (GBM), the most common glial primary brain tumour, is without exception lethal. Every year approximately 600 patients are diagnosed with this heterogeneous disease in The Netherlands. Despite neurosurgery, chemo -and radiation therapy, these tumours inevitably recur. Currently, there is no gold standard at time of recurrence and treatment options are limited. Unfortunately, the results of dedicated trials with new drugs have been very disappointing. The goal of the project is to obtain...
