Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in the pathogenesis of autism. We compared mitochondrial respiratory control in autism with normal lymphoblastoid cell line and found that the oxidative phosphorylation and electron transfer of the NADH- and succinate-linked pathways, and cytochrome c oxidase activity of the autism lymphoblastoid cell line were higher.
