The Cistercian Caesarius of Heisterbach (ca. 1180–1240) is widely known for his Dialogus miraculorum. A similar collection of exempla by Caesarius is considerably less well-known: his Libri VIII miraculorum, the “Eight Miracle Books”. Both works are remarkable sources for 13th century religious and social history, and both mirror the region Caesarius lived and worked.
