Purpose:In children with cerebral palsy, flexion deformities of the knee can be treated with a distal femoral extension osteotomy combined with either patellar tendon advancement or patellar tendon shortening. The purpose of this study was to establish a consensus through expert orthopedic opinion, using a modified Delphi process to describe the surgical indications for distal femoral extension osteotomy and patellar tendon advancement/patellar tendon shortening. A literature review was also conducted to summarize the recent literature...
HOTAIR mediates cisplatin resistance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma by regulating miR-106a-5p/SOX4 axis
Wei Cao, Yi Sun, Long Liu, Junwei Yu, Jiabiao Ji, Yatang Wang & Jianming Yang
This study explored the function and mechanisms of HOX transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR) in the drug resistance of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Quantitative PCR, Western blotting, MTT assay, flow cytometry, Transwell assay, and luciferase assay were performed. HOTAIR expression levels were upregulated in cisplatin (DDP)-resistant NPC tissues and cells. Knockdown of HOTAIR in DDP-resistant NPC cells increased cell sensitivity of DDP, as well as decreased cell viability, expression of chemoresistance-related proteins, migration and invasion, increased cell...

Abstract Background Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) has been shown to influence clinical pain, descending modulation, and exercise-induced symptom worsening. COMT regulates nociceptive processing and inflammation, key pathophysiological features of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia (CFS/FM). We aimed to determine the interactions between genetic and epigenetic mechanisms regulating COMT and its influence on inflammatory markers and symptoms in patients with CFS/FM. Methods. A case-control study with repeated-measures design was used to reduce the chance of false positive and...

Introduction:Prolonged cardiac monitoring (PCM) substantially improves the detection of subclinical atrial fibrillation (AF) among patients with history of ischemic stroke (IS), leading to prompt initiation of anticoagulants. However, whether PCM may lead to IS prevention remains equivocal.Patients and methods:In this systematic review and meta-analysis, randomized-controlled clinical trials (RCTs) reporting IS rates among patients with known cardiovascular risk factors, including but not limited to history of IS, who received PCM for more than 7 days versus...

Abstract Background Home-dwelling frail older adults are often faced with multimorbidity and complex care needs, requiring health and social care systems that support frail older adults to age in place. The objective of this paper was to investigate the types of formal health and social care as well as informal care and social support used by home-dwelling frail older adults; whether they perceive their support as sufficient; and their experience with and preferences for care...
