Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) apolipoprotein E (apoE) species in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients. Methods We analyzed two CSF cohorts of AD and control individuals expressing different APOE genotypes. Moreover, CSF samples from the TgF344-AD rat model were included. Samples were run in native- and SDS-PAGE under reducing or non-reducing conditions (with or without β-mercaptoethanol). Immunoprecipitation combined with mass spectrometry or western blotting analyses...

Background:Intrathecal immunoglobulin-G synthesis is a hallmark of multiple sclerosis (MS), which can be detected by oligoclonal IgG bands (OCB) or by κ-free light chains (κ-FLC) in cerebrospinal fluid. Objective:To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate whether κ-FLC index has similar diagnostic value to identify patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) or MS compared to OCB, and to determine κ-FLC index cut-off.Methods:PubMed was searched for studies that assessed diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of κ-FLC index...

Abstract Telomere length (TL) is associated with biological aging, consequently influencing the risk of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We aimed to evaluate the potential causal role of TL in AD endophenotypes (i.e., cognitive performance, N = 2233; brain age and AD-related signatures, N = 1134; and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers (CSF) of AD and neurodegeneration, N = 304) through a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Our analysis was conducted in the context of the...

Noradrenaline released from locus coeruleus axons contracts cerebral capillary pericytes via α2 adrenergic receptors

Much of the vascular resistance within the brain is located in capillaries and locus coeruleus axons have NA release sites closer to pericytes than to arterioles. Data from: Long-term use benefits of personal frequency-modulated systems for speech in noise perception in patients with stroke with auditory processing deficits: a non-randomised controlled trial study
Nehzat Koohi, Deborah Vickers, Jason Warren, David Werring & Doris-Eva Bamiou
Objectives: Approximately one in five stroke survivors suffer from difficulties with speech reception in noise, despite normal audiometry. These deficits are treatable with personal Frequency Modulated systems (FMs). This study aimed to evaluate long term benefits in speech reception in noise, after daily 10 week use of personal FMs, in non-aphasic stroke patients with auditory processing deficits. Design: This was a prospective non randomised controlled trial study. Patients were allocated to an intervention care group...
