Heidi Janssen, Marie-Louise Bird, Julie Luker, Ben Sellar, Angela Berndt, Samantha Ashby, Annie McCluskey, Louise Ada, Jannette Blennerhassett, Julie Bernhardt & Neil J. Spratt
This study aimed to investigate rehabilitation staff perceptions of factors influencing stroke survivor activity outside of dedicated therapy time for the purpose of supporting successful translation of activity promoting interventions in a rehabilitation unit. Purposive sampling of multi-disciplinary teams from four rehabilitation units was performed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted by telephone, digitally audio-recorded and then transcribed verbatim. A stepped iterative process of thematic analysis was employed until data saturation was reached. All but one...

Using mixed methods to establish tobacco treatment acceptability from the perspective of clients and clinicians of antenatal substance use services
Melissa A. Jackson, Penny Buykx, Amanda L. Brown, Amanda L. Baker, Adrian J. Dunlop & Gillian S. Gould
Abstract Background Up to 95% of pregnant women with alcohol and other drug (AOD) problems also smoke tobacco. Challenging psychosocial circumstances and a lack of targeted tobacco interventions contribute to low rates of prenatal abstinence and more effective treatment strategies are required. This study explores smoking in pregnant clients of AOD treatment services from a consumer and healthcare provider perspective to examine characteristics of behaviour change and the acceptability of evidence-based tobacco treatment strategies. Outcomes...

“Are we there yet?” expectations and experiences with lower limb robotic exoskeletons: a qualitative evaluation of the therapist perspective
Nicola Postol, Julia Barton, Luke Wakely, Andrew Bivard, Neil J. Spratt & Jodie Marquez
Lower limb robotic exoskeletons can assist movement, however, clinical uptake in neurorehabilitation is limited. The views and experiences of clinicians are pivotal to the successful clinical implementation of emerging technologies. This study investigates therapist perspectives of the clinical use and future role of this technology in neurorehabilitation. Australian and New Zealand-based therapists with lower limb exoskeleton experience were recruited to complete an online survey and semi-structured interview. Survey data were transposed into tables and interviews...

R. Ling, B. White, J. Roberts, M. Cretikos, M. V. Howard, P. S. Haber, N. Lintzeris, P. Reeves, A. J. Dunlop & A. Searles
Abstract Background In 2019 daily liquid methadone and sublingual buprenorphine-naloxone were primary opioid agonist treatments for correctional centres in New South Wales, Australia. However, both had significant potential for diversion to other patients, and their daily administration was resource intensive. An alternative treatment in the form of subcutaneous depot buprenorphine became a viable option following a safety trial in 2020 – the UNLOC-T study. Depot preparation demonstrated advantages over current treatments as more difficult to...

Abstract Background Clinical guideline recommendations for addressing modifiable risk factors are not routinely implemented into preconception and antenatal care. This review assessed the effectiveness of implementation strategies in improving health professional provision of preconception and antenatal care addressing tobacco smoking, weight management and alcohol consumption. Methods A systematic review of randomised and non-randomised studies with a parallel comparison group was conducted. Eligible studies used implementation strategy/ies targeted at health professionals to improve at least one...
