We report a low-cost fabrication strategy to prepare a large-area carbon fiber cloth (CFC) coated by Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) as a flexible surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrate. AgNPs were deposited on a hydrophilized CFC by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation of AgNO₃ solution, named UV-AgNPs@CFC. The UV irradiation duration and AgNO₃ solution concentration can affect the AgNPs structure. SERS property is investigated using rhodamine 6G (R6G) and crystal violet (CV) as standard analytes and the detection concentration level...

3D flexible compositing resonant cavity system for high-performance SERS sensing
Weihao Liu, Yaru Li, Zhen Li, Xuejian Du, Shuqi Xie, Cong liu, Shouzhen Jiang & Zhong Li
Arrayed resonant cavity with outstanding optical trapping ability have received increasing attention in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Here, a three-dimensional (3D) composite AgNPs-Al2O3/Au/inverted patterned sapphire substrate PMMA (IPSSPMMA) flexible resonant cavity system is theoretically and experimentally investigated as a flexible SERS sensor. With the help of an effective plasma coupling (localized surface plasmons (LSPs) and surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs)), as shown by the Finite Element Method, a resonant cavity between IPSSPMMA and a particle-film nanostructure...

Disparities in positive results and dissemination of randomized controlled trials in immuno-oncology
Cheng Xu, Shu Zhang, Guang-Li Zhu, Kai-Bin Yang, Yuan Zhang, Yan-Ping Mao, Ling-Long Tang, Qing Liu, Ying Huang & Jun Ma
This cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis aimed to demonstrate the disparities in positive results and dissemination patterns of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in global immuno-oncology (IO). Phase II–IV RCTs with results reported by article publications registered on ClinicalTrials.gov in 2007–2018 studying immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), adoptive cell transfer, cancer vaccines, and immune modulators were included. Twenty-eight percent of trials were positive (72 of 258), most of which were pharma-sponsored and focused on ICI and multiple IO...

Engineered zero-dispersion microcombs using CMOS-ready photonics

Normal group velocity dispersion (GVD) microcombs offer high comb line power and high pumping efficiency compared to bright pulse microcombs. The recent demonstration of normal GVD microcombs using CMOS-foundry-produced microresonators is an important step towards scalable production. However, the chromatic dispersion of CMOS devices is large and impairs generation of broadband microcombs. Here, we report the development of a microresonator in which GVD is reduced due to a couple-ring resonator configuration. Operating in the turnkey...

Long-term retainment of a foreign body in the esophagus in an adult: a case report
Yong Li, Rongguo Wang, Qing Feng, Sai Zhang, Ce Wang & Xiaofei Song
Ingestion of a foreign body (FB) is a common emergency encountered in otorhinolaryngology. In most cases, FBs pass through the digestive tract spontaneously without any serious consequences, but some of them require nonsurgical interventions, and more severe cases require surgical interventions. The types of FBs ingested may differ in different countries and regions. In adults, bones, fish bones, and dental prostheses are most commonly found in the esophagus, and most of the FBs are retained...

Computed tomography-based texture assessment for the differentiation of benign, borderline, and early-stage malignant ovarian neoplasms
Ziying He, Jia Chen, Fei Yang, Xinwei Pan & Chanzhen Liu
ObjectiveThis study was performed to examine the value of computed tomography-based texture assessment for characterizing different types of ovarian neoplasms.MethodsThis retrospective study involved 225 patients with histopathologically confirmed ovarian tumors after surgical resection. Two different data sets of thick (5-mm) slices (during regular and portal venous phases) were analyzed. Raw data analysis, principal component analysis, linear discriminant analysis, and nonlinear discriminant analysis were performed to classify ovarian tumors. The radiologist’s misclassification rate was compared with...

Assessment of bidirectional relationships between systemic lupus erythematosus and anxiety disorder: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study
Qin Zhang, Lingxin Zheng & Kepeng Yang
BackgroundObservational studies have demonstrated that there was a significant correlation between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and anxiety disorder, but the causal relationship between them is not so clearly established. This study aims to reveal the potential causal link between SLE and anxiety disorder.MethodsSummary statistical data of SLE and anxiety disorder were from two large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of European ancestry, followed by a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. The inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method...

Propensity score-integrated power prior approach for augmenting the control arm of a randomized controlled trial by incorporating multiple external data sources
Nelson Lu, Chenguang Wang, Wei-Chen Chen, Heng Li, Changhong Song, Ram Tiwari, Yunling Xu & Lilly Q. Yue
In this paper, a propensity score-integrated power prior approach is developed to augment the control arm of a two-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) with subjects from multiple external data sources such as real-world data (RWD) and historical clinical studies containing subject-level outcomes and covariates. The propensity scores for the subjects in the external data sources versus the subjects in the RCT are first estimated, and then subjects are placed in different strata based on their...
