The present study was carried out to evaluate antioxidant activity from extracts of Cestrum
nocturnum stems and also investigate the chemical content of the plant extracts. Methanol 8% extract,
ethyl acetate, butanol and aqueous extracts were tested for free radical scavenging activity on model
reaction with stable 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH). The results have shown that Methanol
80% extract is the best one as free radical scavenging agent. Phytochemical analysis of the extracts have
shown that methanol 80% extract has flavonoids,...

2nd year Drosophila Developmental Genetics practical

Andreas Prokop
This is the teaching material for the Drosophila module of the Developmental Genetics RSM (research skills module) held at the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health of The University of Manchester each year. This practical course runs over 6 days and is organised and supervised by Andreas Prokop. This module has been taught and optimised over a few years. Emphasis is on: 1) Drosophila as a model system in research 2) the use of fly...

Impact of a hen egg in a rigid floor at 2000 mm/s

Jordi Marcé-Nogué
CASE B: Impact of a egg in a rigid floor at 2000 mm/s. Crack and spill of the yolk. The egg bounces Tests were performed by crashing the specimens on a rigid support. To evaluate the impact damage resistance, specimens were dropped from height levels varying in the range from 50 to 1500 mm with its subsequent change of the impact velocity. With the aim of visualize the impact event details, a high-speed camera MotionBLITZ...
