Chemistry of fluid inclusions in rock samples from Dronning Maud Land, supplement to: Kleinefeld, Bärbel; Bakker, R J (2002): Fluid inclusions as micro-chemical systems: evidence and modelling of fluid-rock interactions in plagioclase. Journal of Metamorphic Geology, 20(9), 845-858

Bärbel Kleinefeld & R J Bakker
Dense, CO2-rich fluid inclusions hosted by plagioclases, An45 to An54, of the O.-v.-Gruber- Anorthosite body, central Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica, contain varying amounts of small calcite, paragonite and pyrophyllite crystals detected by Raman microspectroscopy. These crystals are reaction products that have formed during cooling of the host and the original CO2-rich H2O-bearing enclosed fluid. Variable amounts of these reaction products illustrates that the reaction did not take place uniformly in all fluid inclusions, possibly...

Peter Sedwick, T M Church, Andrew R Bowie, Christopher M Marsay, S J Ussher, K M Achilles, P J Lethaby, Rodney J Johnson, Manmohan M Sarin & Dennis McGillicuddy
We report iron measurements for water column and aerosol samples collected in the Sargasso Sea during July-August 2003 (summer 2003) and April-May 2004 (spring 2004). Our data reveal a large seasonal change in the dissolved iron (dFe) concentration of surface waters in the Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study region, from ~1-2 nM in summer 2003, when aerosol iron concentrations were high (mean 10 nmol/m**3), to ~0.1-0.2 nM in spring 2004, when aerosol iron concentrations were low...

Sedimentological and geophysical investigation of sediment cores from the Amundsen Sea, supplement to: Hillenbrand, Claus-Dieter; Kuhn, Gerhard; Smith, James A; Gohl, Karsten; Graham, Alastair G C; Larter, Robert D; Klages, Johann Philipp; Downey, Rachel; Moreton, Steven Grahame; Forwick, Matthias; Vaughan, David G (2013): Grounding-line retreat of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet from inner Pine Island Bay. Geology, 41(1), 35-38

Ice loss from the marine-based, potentially unstable West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) contributes to current sea-level rise and may raise sea level by up to 3.3 to 5 meters in the future. Over the past few decades, glaciers draining the WAIS into the Amundsen Sea Embayment (ASE) have shown accelerated ice flow, rapid thinning and grounding-line retreat. However, the long-term context of this ice-sheet retreat is poorly constrained, limiting our ability to accurately predict future...
