Data supporting "Effect of pedometer-based walking interventions on long-term health outcomes: prospective 4-year follow-up of two randomised controlled trials using routine primary care data."

PACE-Lift and PACE-UP are two primary care randomised trials of effective 12-week pedometer-based walking interventions. Results from the 1-year follow-ups and 3-year (PACE-UP) and 4-year (PACE-Lift) have already been published. These data relate to further analyses of both datasets, looking at health outcomes from participants’ routine primary care records.

PACE-Lift recruited 60-75 year olds from three general practices in Berkshire and Oxfordshire from October 2011 to October 2012. Ethical approval was granted by Oxfordshire Research Ethics...

Локальные международные конфликты вусловиях глобализации и современная Россия

Aleksey Gavrilienkov
The article discusses the relationship between the occurrence of international conflicts and the desire of states to implement their own geopolitical interests. The key factor in the emergence of conflicts is the concept of an inter-civilization clash by Samuel Huntington, where the role of states in the formation of the international system is the trigger for decision-making. The author states that in modern conditions Russia defends its interests, which should not be perceived by other...

Miocene uplift and Pleistocene forest connectivity drove the evolution of large-bodied Afrotropical pill scarabs (Coleoptera: Hybosoridae: Afrocloetus and Congomostes)

Vasily V. Grebennikov
This study targets the post-Oligocene evolution of low-vagility beetles in wet African forests. Two nominal genera of large-bodied pill scarabs form the focus: the East African Afrocloetus with two nominal species and the Central African Congomostes with three nominal species. Both genera are rarely sampled, particularly Afrocloetus which is known until now from two holotypes collected in 1948 and 1957. Long series of Afrocloetus are newly reported from four Tanzanian localities: Kimboza forest, Kaguru, Rubeho...

These are the data files associated with Strayer, D.L., Fischer, D.T., Hamilton, S.K., Malcom, H.M., Pace, M.L., and Solomon, C.T. 2019. Long-term variability and density dependence in Hudson River Dreissena populations. Freshwater Biology, and describe the long-term dynamics of populations of zebra mussels and quagga mussels in the Hudson River. Data include population density, body mass, biomass, body condition, shell length, growth, and size structure.

OSGEMEOS and the Institutionalization of Street Art:

Theodore Kuttner
When discussing the paradox of displacing the street art aesthetic, i.e. commissioning street artists to create work for art galleries, museums, or public murals, one inevitably has to address issues of co-opting, appropriation, and the institutionalization of a movement that began as a countercultural form of expression. Two commissioned pieces by OSGEMEOS are used as a case study. This paper parses through the discourse surrounding their production and removal. The goal therein is to break...

Donor–Acceptor Molecular Triangles

Peter Ribar, Tomáš Šolomek, Loïc Le Pleux, Daniel Häussinger, Alessandro Prescimone, Markus Neuburger & Michal Juríček
The synthesis and optoelectronic properties of five donor–acceptor molecules, featuring an electron-acceptor unit made of six fused benzenoid rings that resembles an equilateral triangle, are described. These molecular ‘triangles’ were synthesized in eight steps from simple building blocks such that the electron-donor substituents could be installed in the last step by means of the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. All molecules absorb and emit visible light in the region of around 450–650 and 550–850 nm, respectively, exhibit...

Uncertified and Teaching: Industry Professionals in Career and Technical Education Classrooms

Geralyn E. Stephens
Industry professionals are permitted to teach in Michigan's federally funded Career and Technical Education (CTE) secondary programs, before completing a teacher certification program, under the Annual Occupational Authorization (AOA) provision. This study reviews their academic foundations, professional credentials and their pedagogical knowledge and skill levels. Findings include that most AOA teachers possess post-secondary academic credentials and extensive service records in their previous industry careers. The study identified relationships between the age and educational backgrounds of...

First Leaf Emergence Force of Winter Wheat

Lutcher, Larry K.; Wuest, Stewart B.; Johlke, Tami R.
Small, single-point load cells were used to measure force exerted by the first leaf of three hard red cultivars (Farnum, Finley, and Norwest 553) as it emerged from a deep planting depth in a small containerized volume of soil. Coleoptile diameter was determined using a 0 to 25 mm, ratchet-stop 102-301 micrometer (Mitutoyo America Corporation; Aurora, Ill). Diameter measurements were made five mm above the base (CDB), in the middle (CDM), and five mm below...

San serif Bishop Marks from 1673
Practice-based historical research is utilized within the production of an alphabet of letterforms which explore the context for sans serif Bishop Marks from 1673. The limited published history and original primary examples were studied within the production of an experimental digital typeface of the date-stamp glyphs required within a functional computer font. The letterform modelling and characteristics represent a late...
