Density of alkyl esters and its mixtures, supplement to: García, Manuel; Alba, Juan-José; Gonzalo, Alberto; Sánchez, José Luis; Arauzo, Jesús (2013): Density of alkyl esters and its mixtures. A comparison and improvement of predictive models. Fuel, 103, 232-238Manuel García, Juan-José Alba, Alberto Gonzalo, José Luis Sánchez & Jesús Arauzo
Biodiesel density is a key parameter in biodiesel simulations and process development. In this work we selected, evaluated and improved two density models, one theoretical (Rackett-Soave) and one empirical (Lapuerta's method) for methanol based biodiesels (FAME) and ethanol based biodiesel (FAEE). For this purpose, biodiesel was produced from vegetable oils (sunflower, rapeseed, soybean, olive, safflower and other two commercial mixtures of vegetable oils) and animal fats (edible and crude pork fat and beef tallow) using...
Chemical composition of ferromanganese manifestations from the Sea of Okhotsk, supplement to: Baturin, Gleb N; Dubinchuk, V T; Rashidov, V A (2012): Ferromanganese crusts from the Sea of Okhotsk. Translated from Okeanologiya, 2012, 52(1), 95-108, Oceanology, 52(1), 88-100Gleb N Baturin, V T Dubinchuk & V A Rashidov
New data on microstructures and mineral and chemical compositions of ferromanganese crusts sampled from the western slope of the Kuril Island Arc in the Sea of Okhotsk during cruises of R/V Vulkanolog are discussed. The study of the crusts using analytical electron microscopy methods revealed that their manganese phase is represented by vernadite, Fe-vernadite, todorokite, asbolane, and asbolane-buserite, while iron phase consists of hematite, hydrohematite, ferroxyhite, and magnetite. Lithic mineral assemblage includes apatite, quartz, epidote,...
Contents of major components, U, and Th in bones and bone debris, supplement to: Baturin, Gleb N (2001): Uranium and thorium in phosphatic bone debris from the ocean bottom. Translated from Litologiya i Poleznye Iskopaemye, 2001, 2, 115-125, Lithology and Mineral Resources, 36(2), 99-108Gleb N Baturin
Uranium and thorium contents, as well as their distribution patterns have been studied in biogenic phosphates from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Differently lithified fish remains (bones, scales, teeth) and marine mammal bones (ribs, vertebras, earbones) collected from both reduced shelf sediments and oxidized pelagic ones have been analyzed. U content in the material varies from 0.7 to 700 ppm, and Th content - from <0.5 to 14 ppm. U/Th ratio varies from 0.16 to...

Compositions of paleosols from the Salarevo Formation, Sukhona River valley (Severnaya Dvina basin), supplement to: Yakimenko, EYu; Targul'yan, V O; Chumakov, N M; Arefev, M P; Inozemtsev, S A (2000): Paleosols in Upper Permian sedimentary rocks, Sukhona River (Severnaya Dvina basin). Trauslated from Litologiya i Poleznye Iskopaemye, 2000, 4, 376-390, Lithology and Mineral Resources, 35(4), 331-344EYu Yakimenko, V O Targul'yan, N M Chumakov, M P Arefev & S A Inozemtsev
Paleosols crop out in the Sukhona River valley as several members up to 10 m thick embedded into the Salarevo Formation sediments. Principal characteristics of the paleosols include a dense network of root channels, indications of eluvial gley alteration, redistribution and formation of secondary carbonates represented by several generations, and formation of block-prismatic soil structure with specific clayey films at structural jointing faces. The paleosols are divided into a number of genetically interrelated horizons (from...
Distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in eolian and eolian-deluvial sediments from the North Iceland, supplement to: Geptner, A R; Alekseeva, T A; Pikovskiy, Yu I (2002): Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Holocene sediments and tephra of Iceland (composition and distribution features). Translated from Litologiya i Poleznye Iskopaemye, 2002, 2, 172–181, Lithology and Mineral Resources, 37(2), 148-156A R Geptner, T A Alekseeva & Yu I Pikovskiy
This work considers results of a study of Holocene cover sediments in Iceland. They are largely composed of wind-transported palagonitized hyaloclastite particles and coeval horizons of acid and basic tephras. It is established that polyciclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are released from basaltic glass in natural environments only in case of intense physicochemical alteration and destruction of its structure. This process does not influence PAH composition and their quantitative proportions. No new PAH formed during several...
Geochemistry, isotopic ratios, granulometry and Uk'37 derived SST of cores obtained during Poseidon cruise POS287, off Portugal, supplement to: Abrantes, Fatima F; Rodrigues, Teresa; Montanari, B; Santos, C; Witt, L; Lopes, Cristina; Voelker, Antje H L (2011): Climate of the last millennium at the southern pole of the North Atlantic Oscillation: an inner-shelf sediment record of flooding and upwelling. Climate Research, 48(2-3), 261-280Fatima F Abrantes, Teresa Rodrigues, B Montanari, C Santos, L Witt, Cristina Lopes & Antje H L Voelker
Continental and marine conditions during the last millennium off Porto, Portugal (the southern pole of the North Atlantic Oscillation, NAO), are reconstructed from a sediment archive through a high-resolution multiproxy study and instrumental evidence. Results show multidecadal variability and sea surface temperatures (SSTs) that correlate well with previously published land and sea-based Northern Hemisphere temperature records, and appear to be responding to long-term solar insolation variability. Precipitation was negatively correlated with the NAO, whereas strong...
