Visualization 1 includes four parts. Part I presents the speckle evolution of both monochromatic and polychromatic speckles under the illumination bandwidth ranging from λ = 500 nm to λ = 764 nm. Part II shows the speckle autocorrelation changes with the illumination wavelength and the corresponding PBR function versus illumination spectral width. Part III provides the extended data of Fig. 17. In Part IV, we show a dynamic phase retrieval process of an object ’optics’...

Video S2 from Rheology of marine sponges reveals anisotropic mechanics and tuned dynamics

Emile A. Kraus, Lauren E. Mellenthin, Sara A. Siwiecki, Dawei Song, Jing Yan, Paul A. Janmey & Alison M. Sweeney
Video of fully wetted compression (ε =−30% at end) of an n̂1 disc of Axinella sp. The apparent νyx vanishes (no lateral deformation of material) since fluid is forced out of the sponge. In an aquatic environment, active pressure from choanocytes likely prevents this, not to mention compressions are nowhere near as large. Therefore, our everyday intuition which comes from squeezing sponges and using them as a tool, is irrelevant in this work.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder endoscopic mucosal resection: a pilot porcine study

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided natural orifice transluminal gallbladder polypectomy provides a minimally invasive alternative to cholecystectomy. The study aimed to investigate the feasibility and safety of protocol for gallbladder endoscopic mucosal resection (gEMR) under EUS guidance using a porcine model. Fifteen Bama mini pigs were randomly divided into the control (CG, n = 3) and experimental (EG, n = 12) groups. EUS-guided fine needle aspiration was performed in the CG and used to establish a gallbladder...

Genetic mapping of QTL for three root-related traits in wheat (Triticum aestivum)

Li Li, Zhigui Liu & Jun Wu
A well-developed root system plays a positive role in wheat yield. Here, we identified quantitative trait loci (QTL) for total root length (TRL), root average diameter (RD) and number of root tips (RTN) based on the previously developed genetic map of a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population in bread wheat and phenotype data from two individual trials. A stable and major QTL, Qtrl-AS-5A for TRL was detected explaining 17.19 to 17.78% of the phenotypic variation....
