A viscous froth model adapted to wet foams

Denny Vitasari & Simon Cox
This dataset comprises the data from which we drew our conclusions concerning our extension of a “viscous froth” model to the dynamics of a wet foam in a Hele–Shaw cell. "lens_pb.fe" is a Surface Evolver input file from which all results are derived. We also provide the raw data (text files with extension .dat) which was generated from the Surface Evolver simulation code with different sets of parameters. Each .dat file consists of comma-separated columns...

It's time to SAFE the Internet Introducing

Benjamin Kampmann
Servers are hacked. Passwords leaked. Personal information stolen. DNSDDoS'ed. Cloud services are mining and exploiting everything they can gettheir hands on. The core problem; centralised server infrastructure. In this talk, we will introduce you to SAFE, a decentralised privacy-firstopen source data storage and communications network enabling anyone to developdecentralised, secure, privacy-concealing apps. There is no more denying it; the server-centric infrastructure has failed us:personal information mined, private photos are stolen, passwords leaked, entire infrastructures DDoS'ed –...

Visualization of the acoustic organ of Aptenodytes forsteri (Spheniscidae, Aves) via diceCT at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin

Natascha Westphal, Eva-Maria Bendel & Sylke Frahnert
The videos show the digital reconstruction of ear structures of an adult specimen of the Emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri). The segmentation was performed based on the CT scans of a head stored in alcohol at the ornithological collection at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (inventory number ZMB 1999.980). The specimen was stained with Lugol's iodine to make soft tissues visible. The visualization shows the bony ear structures as well as the external ear canal, tympanic...

Neuroscience for Critical Consumers: a workshop for trainee teachers

Kendra McMahon & Peter Etchells
These slides form the central resource of a workshop for trainee teachers. Tutor notes and accompanying resources needed for the workshop are linked below.

This will help them support children’s learning and prepare teachers to critically evaluate the claims and packages they...

Convection and Internal Gravity Waves in a Main-Sequence Star

Philipp Edelmann, Tamara M. Rogers, R. P. Ratnasingam, Dominic Bowman & May Gade Pedersen
This shows a three-dimensional hydrodynamics simulation of a main-sequence star of three solar masses. The star has a convection zone at its core and a radiative envelope. Internal gravity waves are being excited at the interface between these two zones and propagate outward. The colour scale represents the temperature deviations from the horizontal mean.
