Host susceptibility to parasites is mediated by intrinsic and external factors such as genetics, ecology, age and season. While waterfowl are considered central to the reservoir community for low pathogenic avian influenza A viruses (LPAIV), the role of host phylogeny has received limited formal attention. Herein, we analysed 12 339 oropharyngeal and cloacal swabs and 10 826 serum samples collected over 11 years from wild birds in Australia. As well as describing age and species-level...
Late Quaternary terrigenous sediment supply into the Drake Passage in response to ice dynamics
Shuzhuang Wu, Gerhard Kuhn, Helge Wolfgang Arz, Lester Lembke-Jene, Ralf Tiedemann, Frank Lamy & Bernhard Diekmann
The investigated sediment records were retrieved from site PS97/085 in the central Drake Passage, including high-resolution grain size, clay mineral assemblages, geochemical and magnetic properties. Our records reveal terrigenous sediment supply in the Drake Passage is mainly derived from the southeast Pacific, southern South America and the Antarctic Peninsula. We suggest that the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) has served as the key driver for sediment dispersal in the Drake Passage. Furthermore, our high-resolution marine records...
Meiofauna communities from iron-enriched sediments at LTER HAUSGARTEN, with special foucs on nematodes
Christiane Hasemann & Thomas Soltwedel
Impact of Local Iron Enrichment on the Small Benthic Biota in the deep Arctic Ocean The study assesses the impact of local iron enrichment on the small benthic biota (bacteria, meiofauna) together with environmental parameters indicating the input of food at the deep seafloor. To evaluate the hypothesis that abundance, distribution, and diversity of the small benthic biota varies in relation to a local input of structural steel at the seabed, we analyzed sediment samples...

Water/ice velocity data and instrument status from a Nortek Aquadopp Profiler 2MHz acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) attached to a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) during the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC) expedition between November 2019 and September 2020. Master tracks in different resolutions during POLAR 6 campaign P6_235_IceBird_2022
Thomas Krumpen, Gerit Birnbaum & Valentin Ludwig
Raw data acquired by GPS1 position sensors on board research aircraft Polar 6 during the campaign P6_235_IceBird_2022 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. Novatel FlexPak6 GPS receiver was used as navigation sensors during the campaign. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (https://dship.awi.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution and...
Energy content measurements on Arctic zooplankton collected during MOSAiC (PS122)

This dataset contains energy content measurements performed on zooplankton collected in the Arctic Ocean during the MOSAiC expedition (PS122) from November 2019 untill September 2020. Energy content measurements were done on Apherusa glacialis, Themisto abyssorum, Chaetognatha, Thysanoessa longicaudata and Calanus hyperboreus. These species are all known prey of polar cod (Boreogadus saida), and their energy content was measured to be included in a bioenergetic model of the growth rate of this predator and to gain...
