This introduction to the study of the 17th- and 18th-century choirbooks of the ducal chapel of St Mark’s, Venice, examines the general and material history of the choirbooks and their transmission to modern times, together with their relation to the ceremonial and liturgical soundscape of the ducal chapel (both before and after the reform enacted by Baldassare Galuppi in 1765).
