Epidemiological characteristics and molecular features of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter (CR-Ent) species remain unclear in China. In this study, we performed a genomic study on 92 isolates from Enterobacter-caused infections from a multicenter study in China. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) was used to determine the genome sequence of 92 non-duplicated CR-Ent strains collected from multiple tertiary health centres. The precise species of Enterobacter strains were identified by average nucleotide identity (ANI) and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization (isDDH)....

A Tweedie Compound Poisson Model in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space

Yi Lian, Archer Yi Yang, Boxiang Wang, Peng Shi & Robert William Platt
Tweedie models can be used to analyze nonnegative continuous data with a probability mass at zero. There have been wide applications in natural science, healthcare research, actuarial science, and other fields. The performance of existing Tweedie models can be limited on today’s complex data problems with challenging characteristics such as nonlinear effects, high-order interactions, high-dimensionality and sparsity. In this article, we propose a kernel Tweedie model, Ktweedie, and its sparse variant, SKtweedie, that can simultaneously...

A new technique for Asian nasal tip shaping: \"twin tower\" folding ear cartilage transplantation

Long Zhang, Jiang-wen Wang, Jun Ding, Xi Zhang, Xi-mei Wang, Zhan-zhao Zhang & Run-ze Yu
Rhinoplasty focuses on the establishment of the structural support of nasal cartilage and the shaping of the nasal tip. The purpose of this study was to explore the application of "double tower" folding ear cartilage transplantation for nasal tip shaping in rhinoplasty.

Transcriptome analysis of adipocytokines and their-related LncRNAs in lung adenocarcinoma revealing the association with prognosis, immune infiltration, and metabolic characteristics

Jie Ren, Hui Zhang, Jinna Wang, Yingsong Xu, Lei Zhao & Qihang Yuan
Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is amongst the major contributors to cancer-related deaths on a global scale. Adipocytokines and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are indispensable participants in cancer. We performed a pan-cancer analysis of the mRNA expression, single nucleotide variation, copy number variation, and prognostic value of adipocytokines. LUAD samples were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases. Simultaneously, train, internal and external cohorts were grouped. After a stepwise screening...

MeCP2-induced heterochromatin organization is driven by oligomerization-based liquid–liquid phase separation and restricted by DNA methylation

Hui Zhang, Hector Romero, Annika Schmidt, Katalina Gagova, Weihua Qin, Bianca Bertulat, Anne Lehmkuhl, Manuela Milden, Malte Eck, Tobias Meckel, Heinrich Leonhardt & M. Cristina Cardoso
Heterochromatin is the highly compacted form of chromatin with various condensation levels hallmarked by high DNA methylation. MeCP2 is mostly known as a DNA methylation reader but has also been reported as a heterochromatin organizer. Here, we combine liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) analysis and single-molecule tracking with quantification of local MeCP2 concentrations in vitro and in vivo to explore the mechanism of MeCP2-driven heterochromatin organization and dynamics. We show that MeCP2 alone forms liquid-like spherical...

Repair mechanism of Wuwei Fuzheng Yijing formula in di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate-induced sperm DNA fragmentation in mice

Chenming Zhang, Shiqi Wang, Zulong Wang, Qi Zhang, Rubing Chen, Hao Zhang, Zhong Hua & Sicheng Ma
Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), a known persistent organic pollutant, can increase the sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI). To investigate the mechanism underlying the repair of DEHP-induced sperm DNA damage in mice by Wuwei Fuzheng Yijing (WFY) formula. The potential targets of WFY and sperm DNA fragment (SDF) were obtained from the TCMSP, BATMAN-TCM, OMIM and GeneCards. The protein–protein interaction (PPI) network, GO and KEGG pathway analyses of WFY-SDF were constructed. An animal model of DEHP-induced sperm...

Methyl-Sensitive Amplification Polymorphism (MSAP) Analysis Provides Insights into the DNA Methylation Underlying Heterosis in Kenaf (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) Drought Tolerance

Dengjie Luo, Shan Cao, Zengqiang Li, Meiqiong Tang, Caijin Wang, Enerand Mackon, Zhen Huang, Jiao Pan, Xia Wu, Qijing Wu, Hui Zhang, Renxue Li, Xin Li, Ru Li & Peng Chen
Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is an industrial fiber crop with significant heterosis and tolerance to abiotic stresses. However, the mechanism underlying heterosis in kenaf under drought conditions is completely unknown. In this study, F1 hybrids were remarkably tolerant to drought stress. Through methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism (MSAP) analysis, we highlighted that total DNA methylation level under drought decreased by 11.2% in F1 and increased by 29.7% and 13.1% in parents CP079 and CP071, respectively. Unlike parents,...
