Methyl-Sensitive Amplification Polymorphism (MSAP) Analysis Provides Insights into the DNA Methylation Underlying Heterosis in Kenaf (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) Drought Tolerance

Dengjie Luo, Shan Cao, Zengqiang Li, Meiqiong Tang, Caijin Wang, Enerand Mackon, Zhen Huang, Jiao Pan, Xia Wu, Qijing Wu, Hui Zhang, Renxue Li, Xin Li, Ru Li & Peng Chen
Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is an industrial fiber crop with significant heterosis and tolerance to abiotic stresses. However, the mechanism underlying heterosis in kenaf under drought conditions is completely unknown. In this study, F1 hybrids were remarkably tolerant to drought stress. Through methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism (MSAP) analysis, we highlighted that total DNA methylation level under drought decreased by 11.2% in F1 and increased by 29.7% and 13.1% in parents CP079 and CP071, respectively. Unlike parents,...

INFLUENCE OF UPPER BODY STRETCHING EXERCISES ON SHOT PUT

Yusong Teng, Anyu Chen, Zhaoyu Xie, Jiahe Zhang & Wei Liu
ABSTRACT Introduction The technique in the shot put and the ability in the throwing stage are two important factors that determine the ability of athletes. Qualified experts and coaches attach great importance to training and research on the ability of the throwing stage and the ability to throw. Objective Compare gravity load training and single incremental load training through practical means, analyzing the impacts on throwing ability in athletes. Methods The self-assessment method was used...

IL-17A deletion reduces sevoflurane-induced neurocognitive impairment in neonatal mice by inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathway

Qi Zhang, Yanan Li, Chunping Yin, Mingyang Gao, Jiaxu Yu, Junfei Guo, Xiaohui Xian, Zhiyong Hou & Qiujun Wang
We investigated the role of IL-17A in sevoflurane-inducedneurocognitive impairment in neonatal mice. Seventy-two wild-type (WT) and 42 IL-17A knockout (KO) neonatal mice were randomly divided into WT (n = 36), IL-17A−/− (n = 6), sevoflurane (Sev, n = 36), and IL-17A−/− + sevoflurane (IL-17A−/− + Sev, n = 36) groups. The latter two groups were given 3% sevoflurane for 2 h per day on postnatal days (P) 6–8. Behavioral experiments were performed on P30–36. At...

Transfer Learning of Individualized Treatment Rules from Experimental to Real-World Data

Lili Wu & Shu Yang
Individualized treatment effect lies at the heart of precision medicine. Interpretable individualized treatment rules (ITRs) are desirable for clinicians or policymakers due to their intuitive appeal and transparency. The gold-standard approach to estimating the ITRs is randomized experiments, where subjects are randomized to different treatment groups and the confounding bias is minimized to the extent possible. However, experimental studies are limited in external validity because of their selection restrictions, and therefore the underlying study population...

A Tweedie Compound Poisson Model in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space

Yi Lian, Archer Yi Yang, Boxiang Wang, Peng Shi & Robert William Platt
Tweedie models can be used to analyze nonnegative continuous data with a probability mass at zero. There have been wide applications in natural science, healthcare research, actuarial science, and other fields. The performance of existing Tweedie models can be limited on today’s complex data problems with challenging characteristics such as nonlinear effects, high-order interactions, high-dimensionality and sparsity. In this article, we propose a kernel Tweedie model, Ktweedie, and its sparse variant, SKtweedie, that can simultaneously...

Transcriptome analysis of adipocytokines and their-related LncRNAs in lung adenocarcinoma revealing the association with prognosis, immune infiltration, and metabolic characteristics

Jie Ren, Hui Zhang, Jinna Wang, Yingsong Xu, Lei Zhao & Qihang Yuan
Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is amongst the major contributors to cancer-related deaths on a global scale. Adipocytokines and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are indispensable participants in cancer. We performed a pan-cancer analysis of the mRNA expression, single nucleotide variation, copy number variation, and prognostic value of adipocytokines. LUAD samples were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases. Simultaneously, train, internal and external cohorts were grouped. After a stepwise screening...

SPRY4 promotes adipogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells through the MEK–ERK1/2 signaling pathway

Na Li, Yunfei Chen, Haiyan Wang, Jing Li & Robert Chunhua Zhao
Obesity is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by the accumulation of excess fat in the body. Preventing and controlling obesity by inhibiting the adipogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and thereby avoiding the increase of white adipose tissue is safe and effective. Recent studies have demonstrated that Sprouty proteins (SPRYs) are involved in cell differentiation and related diseases. However, the role and mechanism of SPRY4 in MSC adipogenic differentiation remain to be explored. Here,...
