Yuguang Zhang, Xiao Liu, Jing Cong, Hui Lu, Yuyu Sheng, Xiulei Wang, Diqiang Li, Xueduan Liu, Huaqun Yin, Jizhong Zhou & Ye Deng
Land-cover change has long been recognized as having marked effect on the amount of soil organic carbon (SOC). However, the microbially-mediated processes and mechanisms on SOC are still unclear. In this study, the soil samples in a degenerative succession from alpine meadow to alpine steppe meadow in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau were analyzed using high-throughput technologies, including Illumina sequencing and GeoChip functional gene arrays. The soil microbial community structure and diversity were significantly (P < 0.05)...

The effect of precursor speciation on the growth of scorodite in an atmospheric scorodite synthesis

Zhihao Rong, Xincun Tang, Liping Wu, Xi Chen, Wei Dang, Liuchun Huang, Xing Li & Yang Wang
In this study, we propose a growth pathaway of scorodite in an atmospheric scorodite synthesis. Scorodite is a non-direct product, which is derived from the transformation of its precursor, ferrihydrite or poorly crystalline ferric arsenate. Different precursor speciation leads to different crystallinity and morphology of synthesized scorodite. At 10 and 20 g·L-1 initial arsenic concentration, the precursor of scorodite is identified as ferrihydrite. At 10 g·L-1 initial arsenic concentrtaion, low arsenic concentrtaion is unfavourable to...

Objective: To investigate serum neurofilament light protein (sNfL) levels in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) and to determine whether they are associated with disease severity. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 185 healthy controls and 235 ATXN3 mutation carriers (17 asymptomatic stage, 20 preclinical stage, and 198 ataxic stage). We measured sNfL levels with the single molecule array (Simoa) platform. Clinical disease severity was assessed using the scale of assessment and rating of ataxia...

Association of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase ( MTHFR ) gene polymorphisms (C677T and A1298C) with thyroid dysfunction: A meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis

Rui Yang, Danhua Pu, Rongrong Tan & Jie Wu
ABSTRACT Recent studies have shown that two common methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase ( MTHFR ) gene polymorphisms (C677T and A1298C) might correlate with thyroid dysfunction, but the results remain inconsistent. We carried out a meta-analysis aiming to assess the relationship of both polymorphisms with thyroid dysfunction. The PubMed, EMBASE, CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), CBMdisc (China Biology Medicine disc), WeiPu and Wanfang databases were searched up to September 2021. Case-control and cohort studies on MTHFR polymorphism and...

Tumour suppressor TET2 safeguards enhancers from aberrant DNA methylation and epigenetic reprogramming in ERα-positive breast cancer cells

Ruitu Lyu, Xuguo Zhu, Yinghui Shen, Lijun Xiong, Lu Liu, Hang Liu, Feizhen Wu, Christian Argueta & Li Tan
Aberrant DNA methylation is an epigenetic hallmark of malignant tumours. The DNA methylation level is regulated by not only DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) but also Ten-Eleven Translocation (TET) family proteins. However, the exact role of TET genes in breast cancer remains controversial. Here, we uncover that the ERα-positive breast cancer patients with high TET2 mRNA expression had better overall survival rates. Consistently, knockout of TET2 promotes the tumorigenesis of ERα-positive MCF7 breast cancer cells. Mechanistically, TET2...
