The effect of precursor speciation on the growth of scorodite in an atmospheric scorodite synthesis

Zhihao Rong, Xincun Tang, Liping Wu, Xi Chen, Wei Dang, Liuchun Huang, Xing Li & Yang Wang
In this study, we propose a growth pathaway of scorodite in an atmospheric scorodite synthesis. Scorodite is a non-direct product, which is derived from the transformation of its precursor, ferrihydrite or poorly crystalline ferric arsenate. Different precursor speciation leads to different crystallinity and morphology of synthesized scorodite. At 10 and 20 g·L-1 initial arsenic concentration, the precursor of scorodite is identified as ferrihydrite. At 10 g·L-1 initial arsenic concentrtaion, low arsenic concentrtaion is unfavourable to...

Cholesterol depletion sensitizes gallbladder cancer to cisplatin by impairing DNA damage response

Yonglong Zhang, Yanfeng Liu, Jinlin Duan, Hui Wang, Yuchen Zhang, Ke Qiao & Jian Wang
Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the common malignancy of the bile tract system with extremely poor clinical outcomes, owing to its metastatic property and intrinsic resistance to the first-line drugs. Although it is well-established that cholesterol abnormity contributes to gallstone formation, a leading risk factor for GBC, the link of cholesterol homeostasis with GBC has not been investigated. The present study systematically examined the genes implicated in cholesterol homeostasis, and revealed altered gene expressions of de...

Qili Shi, Libing Shen, Jun Gan, Lirong He, Jing Lin, Shiyu Guo, Zi Xiong, Jie Lin & Shun Zhang
Molecular characterizations, including microsatellite instability (MSI) and the CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) showed strong associations in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) and provided a deeper understanding of the etiology of disease. However, the global relationship between epigenetic alternations and changes in mRNA expression in CRC remains largely undefined, especially regarding the roles of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs). Here, we conducted a systematic network comparison to explore the global conservation between co-expressed and co-methylated modules. We successfully identified...

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have vastly expanded our view of RNA world in intracellular signal regulating networks. Here, we functionally characterized a normally highly expressed miRNA, miR-30a-5p (MIMAT0000087), which exhibits downregulated expression profiles in prostate cancer samples. MiR-30a-5p knockdown and overexpression in PC-3 cell line alters cell proliferation supporting a tumour suppressor role. We also discovered that PCLAF is the direct target of miR-30a-5p. Notably, PC-3 cell proliferation is inhibited by miR-30a-5p/PCLAF axis. miR-30a-5p represents a novel...

Hao Gao, Xiaofeng Li, Guangxi Zhan, Yong Zhu, Jing Yu, Jiapo Wang, Li Li, Weimin Wu, Na Liu & Xiaoqing Guo
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy, and its vulnerability to metastasis contributes to the poor outcomes of EOC patients. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) were verified to play a pivotal role in EOC metastasis. However, the potential role of lncRNA membrane-associated guanylate kinase inverted 1 (MAGI1) intronic transcript (MAGI1-IT1) in EOC is largely unknown. In this study, the function and mechanisms of MAGI1-IT1 in EOC metastasis were explored profoundly. First, MAGI1-IT1 expression...
