Jan D. Reinhardt, Marcel W.M. Post, Christine Fekete, Bruno Trezzini, Martin W.G. Brinkhof, Marcel W. M. Post & Martin W. G. Brinkhof
Objectives: We aimed to describe labor market participation (LMP) of persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) in Switzerland, to examine potential determinants of LMP, and to compare LMP between SCI and the general population. Methods: We analyzed data from 1458 participants of employable age from the cross-sectional community survey of the Swiss Spinal Cord Injury Cohort Study. Data on LMP of the Swiss general population were obtained from the Swiss Federal Statistics Office. Factors associated...

Data were collected through a cross-sectional representative population survey (N = 313) conducted in early 2021 in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. The goal of the survey is to understand the knowledge and awareness of palliative care in the Italian-speaking Swiss general population, describing the main misconceptions or false beliefs and their relationship with attitudes towards palliative care.

Aim: Since reliable response predictors to platinum-based chemotherapy in ovarian cancer (OC) are scarce, we characterize NCALD as a predictive biomarker. Materials & methods: NCALD mRNA (n = 100) and protein (n = 102) expression was analyzed in OC samples and associated with patient outcome. A stable OC cell line knockdown was generated and cellular response to platinum was explored. Results: High NCALD mRNA and protein expression was significantly associated with longer overall patient survival...

Improving collaboration between specialists and general practitioners in services for individuals with chronic spinal cord injury living in rural areas of Switzerland: Baseline results from the SCI-Co study

Rebecca Tomaschek, Armin Gemperli & Stefan Essig
Strategies to combine primary and specialized care are crucial to meet the needs of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) located in rural areas. We explored the collaboration between general practitioners (GPs) and SCI specialists who will participate in an intervention study to improve their collaboration. A questionnaire survey from August to October 2020. Primary Care, Specialized SCI care. Eight GPs and 13 SCI specialists. Baseline results from the SCI-Co study. N/A. Overall, satisfaction ratings...

External validation of EPIC’s Risk of Unplanned Readmission model, the LACE+ index and SQLape® as predictors of unplanned hospital readmissions: A monocentric, retrospective, diagnostic cohort study in Switzerland

Aljoscha Benjamin Hwang
Introduction: Readmissions after an acute care hospitalization are relatively common, costly to the health care system, and are associated with significant burden for patients. As one way to reduce costs and simultaneously improve quality of care, hospital readmissions receive increasing interest from policy makers. It is only relatively recently that strategies were developed with the specific aim of reducing unplanned readmissions using prediction models to identify patients at risk. EPIC’s Risk of Unplanned Readmission model...
