Hilko Van Der Voet, Paul W. Goedhart, Jenny Lazebnik, Geert J. T. Kessel, Ewen Mullins, Joop J. A. Van Loon & Salvatore Arpaia
This paper considers the statistical analysis of entomological count data from field experiments with genetically modified (GM) plants. Such trials are carried out to assess environmental safety. Potential effects on nontarget organisms (NTOs), as indicators of biodiversity, are investigated. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) gives broad guidance on the environmental risk assessment (ERA) of GM plants. Field experiments must contain suitable comparator crops as a benchmark for the assessment of designated endpoints. In this...

Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) is one of the most important tree nut crops in Europe. Germplasm accessions are conserved in ex situ repositories, located in countries where hazelnut production occurs. In this work, we used ten simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers as the basis to establish a core collection representative of the hazelnut genetic diversity conserved in different European collections. A total of 480 accessions were used: 430 from ex situ collections and 50 landraces...

Measurements of downward shortwave (SW) and longwave (LW) irradiances started in 2009 with the installation of one pyranometer and one pyrgeometer on the roof of building 1971 (about 5 m agl). Different models of instruments have been operated: Eppley PSP and Kipp&Zonen CMP21 pyranometers for SW irradiance, and Eppley PIR and Kipp&Zonen CGR4 pyrgeometers for LW irradiance. See https://www.thuleatmos-it.it/instruments/radiometers for additional details. Radiometers are ventilated to prevent ice/dew formation on their domes. Data are recorded...

Measurements of Cloud Base Height (CBH) at the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory (THAAO) are carried out by means of a LUFFT Nimbus CHM15k ceilometer. The ceilometer is a laser remote sensing device with embedded algorithm for determining layers of particles and droplets in the atmosphere. The CHM15k Algorithm provides the Cloud Base Height (CBH) together with the Cloud Penetration Depth (CPD), and it is able to discriminate up to 3 different layers of clouds...

Downward Longwave Irradiance at the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory during MACMAP (THAAO_DLI_MACMAP)

Daniela Meloni, Alcide Di Sarra, Giandomenico Pace, Tatiana Di Iorio, Giovanni Muscari, Antonio Iaccarino & Filippo Calì Quaglia
Measurements of downward shortwave (SW) and longwave (LW) irradiance are collected by Kipp&Zonen CMP21 pyranometer and CGR4 pyrgeometer, respectively, installed on the roof of building 1971. Both sensors are ventilated to prevent ice formation on their domes. Data are recorded at 1 minute time step. Corrections are applied to measurements in order to take into account the dependance of the radiometers’ sensitivity on temperature and the change in time. The small pyranometer's thermal offset is...

Integrated Water Vapor at the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory (THAAO_IWV)

Giovanni Muscari, Alcide Di Sarra, Tatiana Di Iorio, Daniela Meloni, Giandomenico Pace, Antonio Iaccarino, Filippo Calì Quaglia & Gianpaolo Sensale
Measurements of integrated water vapor (IWV or PWV) at the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory (THAAO) carried out by means of a microwave spectrometer (VESPA-22) designed and built at the INGV laboratories in Rome. Measurements start in July 2016 and are carried out every 20 to 40 minutes. VESPA-22 measures the sky opacity at 22 GHz by performing a sky scan (or tipping curve) and this observation is then converted into water vapor column contents....

Upward Shortwave Irradiance at the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory (THAAO_USI)

Daniela Meloni, Alcide Di Sarra, Tatiana Di Iorio, Giandomenico Pace, Giovanni Muscari, Antonio Iaccarino & Filippo Calì Quaglia
Downward-looking radiometers have been installed on July 2016 to collect the upward component of the SW and LW irradiances. Eppley PSP pyranometer and PIR pyrgeometer are located about 100 m West of THAAO on a metal frame at about 2.3 m agl. Electronic levels monitor any possible deviation from the horizontal in the North-South and Est-West directions. See https://www.thuleatmos-it.it/instruments/radiometers for additional details. Radiometers are not ventilated. Data are recorded with a 30 second time step...

Data from: Molecular and morphological diversity of on-farm hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) landraces from southern Europe and their role in the origin and diffusion of cultivated germplasm

Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) is a traditional nut crop in southern Europe. Germplasm exploration conducted on-farm in five countries (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, and Greece) identified 77 landraces. The present work describes phenotypic variation in nut and husk traits and investigates genetic relationships using 10 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers among these landraces, 57 well-known references cultivars, and 19 wild accessions. Among the 77 landraces, 42 had unique fingerprints while 35 showed a SSR profile...

Nielsen, Ettore Randi, Andrzej Zalewski, Cino Pertoldi, Mariella Baratti, Tiziana Di Lorenzo, Alessio Iannucci, Diana Maria Paola Galassi, Valentina Iannilli, Just Jensen, Dragos Postolache & Giovanni Giuseppe Vendramin
The article documents the public availability of RAD sequencing data and generated SNPs for the American mink (Neovison vison). 224,095 polymorphic loci were identified from 14 mink from which primers were designed for a subset of 380 SNPs. The panel was tested on 211 mink. Fisher’s F-statistics (Fis, FIT and FST) as well as observed (HO), expected (HE) and unbiased expected (uHE) heterozygosity was calculated for the SNPs and 194 SNPs was validated as being...
