Misconceptions about COVID-19 vaccine among adults in Saudi Arabia and their associated factor

Eman Adam
It is of the utmost importance for the elements that influence public compliance to the COVID-19 vaccine to be assessed, including misconceptions, rumors, and conspiracy theories. Hence our study aimed to estimate the distribution of the most common misconceptions and their predictors in Saudi Arabia. We distributed an online questionnaire to participants who were 18 years or older at the time of the survey, which included four sections: demographic characteristics of participants, level of their...

The Role of Critical Care Pharmacists Beyond Intensive Care Units: A Narrative Review on Medication Management for ICU Survivors

Ohoud Aljuhani
Abstract There is a global improvement in critical care services that leads to prolonged survival after ICU stay. This improvement has increased the demand for multidisciplinary critical care services beyond the ICU. Recently, efforts focused on the patient’s quality of life after ICU discharge and family involvement in their care. Most older adults who survive an ICU stay are challenged by complex medication changes following discharge, as are their caregivers. Limited literature addresses the standard...

The relevance of nanotechnology, hepato-protective agents in reducing the toxicity and augmenting the bioavailability of isotretinoin

Khaled M. Hosny, Nabil A. Alhakamy & Khalid S. Al Nahyah
Acne Vulgaris is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin disorders that affect majority of teen-agers worldwide. Isotretinoin (ITT) is the drug of choice in the management of acne, but, it suffers from serious side-effects including hepatotoxicity, and some psychological disturbances following its oral intake. The objective of this study was to develop and optimize ITT loaded nanoemulsions (ITT-SNEDDS) and to incorporate resveratrol (RSV)in optimum formulation to decrease ITT side effects The ITT solubility...

Data from: Structural and catalytic properties of copper silicate nanomaterials

Katabathini Narasimharao & Salem Bawaked
Nanosized copper silicates with three different structural morphology (amorphous, nanotubes and MEL) were prepared using different synthesis methods. The physico-chemical properties of copper silicates were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, HRTEM, N2-physisorption, XPS and H2-TPR techniques. The results indicated that the preparation conditions affect reduction behavior and textural properties of nanosized copper silicates. Hydrothermal synthesis method yielded chrysocolla-like CuSiO3 nanotubes, which possessed high surface area and pore volume with easy reducibility. The catalytic performances of...

Data from: Plastid genome sequences of legumes reveal parallel inversions and multiple losses of rps16 in papilionoids

Erika N. Schwarz, Tracey A. Ruhlman, Jamal S. M. Sabir, Nahid H. Ajarah, Njud S. Alharbi, Abdulrahman L. Al-Malki, C. Donovan Bailey, Robert K. Jansen & Nahid H. Hajrah
To date, publicly available plastid genomes of legumes have for the most part been limited to the subfamily Papilionoideae. Here we report 13 new plastid genomes of legumes spanning all three subfamilies. The genomes representing Caesalpinioideae and Mimosoideae are highly conserved in gene content and gene order, similar to the ancestral angiosperm genome organization. Genomes within the Papilionoideae, however, have reduced sizes due to deletions in nine intergenic spacers primarily in the large single copy...

UPLC-MS/MS Method for quantitation of the recently FDA approved combination of vaborbactam and meropenem in human plasma

Maha Hegazy, Ahmed Kammoun, Alaa Khedr & Ahdab Khayyat
A parenteral medical combination containing vaborbactam (VBR) and meropenem (MRP) is used mainly to treat complicated urinary tract infections. A novel ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC)- tandem mass spectrometric (MS/MS) method was developed for the sensitive determination of both compounds in human plasma. Sample preparation was performed by precipitation technique. The chromatographic separation was accomplished using the Acquity C18-BEH column, 0.01 M ammonium formate: acetonitrile (47:53, v/v) as a mobile phase with a flow rate of...

Impact of smoking cessation, coffee and bread consumption on the intestinal microbial composition among Saudis: A cross-sectional study

The gut microbiota is often affected by the dietary and lifestyle habits of the host, resulting in a better efficacy that favors energy harvesting from the consumed food. Our objective was to characterize the composition of gut microbiota in adult Saudis and investigate possible association with lifestyle and dietary practices. Feces from 104 Saudi volunteers (48% males) were tested for microbiota by sequencing the V3-V4 region of bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA). For all participants,...
