Multibeam bathymetry from an Autonomous Underwater Vehicule (AUV) - Pointe-des-Monts (2019-2020)

Using an autonomous underwater vehicle (HUGIN) equipped with an EM2040 multibeam echosounder, submarine canyons and channels offshore Pointe-des-Monts were surveyed in 2019 and 2020. This survey aimed at identifying the fine-scale morphological variability of turbidity current bedforms on the modern seafloor. This project was funded by Réseau Québec-Maritime.

The Mesoproterozoic is an important era for the development of eukaryotic organisms in oceans. The earliest unambiguous eukaryotic microfossils are reported in late Paleoproterozoic shales from China and Australia. During the Mesoproterozoic, eukaryotes diversified in taxonomy, metabolism and ecology, with the advent of eukaryotic photosynthesis, osmotrophy, multicellularity, and predation. Knowledge of what controls the activity of subsurface microbial communities is critical for assessing and managing biogenic methane resources. In this study, 19 formation waters and five gas samples were collected at depths of 800 to 1900 m from Quaternary biogenic gas fields of the Qaidam Basin, China. The taxonomy, diversity, evolutionary lineages, and stratigraphical distributions of Middle and early Late Triassic conodonts are reviewed and re-evaluated. Twenty-five genera are recognized in the Middle and early Late Triassic, including a new genus cited in open nomenclature. Of these, 24 genera are assigned to two families and seven subfamilies. The family Gondolellidae consists of the subfamilies Cornudininae, Epigondolellinae, Neogondolellinae, Novispathodinae, Paragondolellinae and Pseudofurnishiinae.
