Mineralogy and PGE geochemistry of chromitites and peridotites of the sapat complex in the indus suture zone, northern Pakistan: implications for magmatic processes in the supra-subduction zone

Zaheen Ullah, Huan Li, Asad Khan, Shah Faisal, Yildirim Dilek, Michael W. Förster, Muhammad Farhan, Umar Ashraf, Salman Ahmed Khattak, Gohar Rehman & Syed Asim Hussain
The Sapat Complex in Northern Pakistan contains remnants of the northern Neo-Tethys Ocean, presently exposed along the Indus Suture Zone. The mantle peridotites of the Sapat Complex include harzburgites, dunites, and subordinate lherzolites. Harzburgites are the dominant peridotite variety over dunites. The dunites are hosted by harzburgites and occur exclusively as ‘envelopes’ surrounding chromitite pods. The podiform chromitites show disseminated, banded, and massive textures. Chromitites exhibit variable Cr# [Cr/(Cr + Al)] and Mg# [Mg/(Mg +...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPORTIVE CAPACITIES AND ATHLETIC POTENTIAL IN THE INDIVIDUAL WITH CHRONIC DISEASES

Linna Wu, Zi Zhi, Jun Li & Guofu Kuang
ABSTRACT Introduction Success in sports depends on the athlete’s potential, including the presence of chronic diseases that can negatively affect a sports career. The issue studied is complex, and its solution depends on a combination of factors that act as basal components. The relevance of the research topic mentioned here is determined by the need to study the relationship between these two factors in the context of their mutual influence on an individual’s sports career...

Genome-wide characterization of circRNA expression profile in overexpression of RIP2 chicken macrophages associated with avian pathogenic E.coli infection

Hongyan Sun, Yuyi Ma, Yexin Yang, Changhua Sun & Huan Li
Avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) can cause localized and systemic diseases in poultry, threatening human health via meat or egg contamination and resulting in considerable economic losses to the poultry industry globally. Increasing evidence shows circRNAs were widely involved in various biological processes. However, the role of circRNAs in the host response against APEC infection, especially correlated with the regulation of RIP2, remains unclear. Herein, the RNAseq technology was used to identify the circRNA expression...

Circular RNA hsa_circ_0006091 as a novel biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma

Yongwei Zhang, Jun Li, Quanwei Cui, Panyi Hu, Shuangjiu Hu & Yeben Qian
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are stable and extensively distributed non-coding RNA molecules that are differentially expressed in liver cancer tissues in the human body. In this study, we aimed to investigate circRNA as a novel candidate biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). For three groups of HCC and neighboring healthy tissues, the differentially expressed circRNAs were identified through high-throughput sequencing analysis. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) were employed for the evaluation of...

The mammalian Atg18 ortholog WIPI2 is a key regulator of LC3 lipidation to promote autophagosome biogenesis during nonselective macroautophagy, while its functions in selective autophagy such as mitophagy remain largely unexplored. In this study, we explored the role of WIPI2 in PINK1-PRKN/parkin-mediated mitophagy. First, we found that WIPI2 is recruited to damaged mitochondria upon mitophagy induction. Second, loss of WIPI2 impedes mitochondrial damaging agents-induced mitophagy. Third, at molecular level, WIPI2 binds to and promotes AAA-ATPase...

Integrative analyses of hub genes and their association with immune infiltration in adipose tissue, liver tissue and skeletal muscle of obese patients after bariatric surgery

Kemin Yan, Pengyuan Zhang, Jiewen Jin, Xin Chen, Hongyu Guan, Yanbing Li & Hai Li
Bariatric surgery (BS) is an effective treatment for obesity. Adipose tissue, liver tissue and skeletal muscle are important metabolic tissues. This study investigated hub genes and their association with immune infiltration in these metabolic tissues of obese patients after BS by bioinformatic analysis with Gene Expression Omnibus datasets. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, and a protein–protein interaction network was constructed to identify hub genes. As a result, 121 common DEGs were identified and mainly...

Genetic and pathogenic variation of Botrytis cinerea, the causal agent of grey mould on Panax ginseng in China

Rong Wang, Kun Liu, Bingwei Chen, Wanlong Ding & Yong Li
Grey mould, caused by Botrytis cinerea, is an increasingly destructive disease of ginseng (Panax ginseng) in China. However, the extent of variation in the morphological characteristics of fungal colonies, genetic background and pathogenicity of different strains of this pathogen remains unknown. In this study, we isolated and identified 102 isolates of B. cinerea from ginseng. Among these, the sclerotial phenotype was dominant, followed by the mycelial and conidial phenotypes, with the proportion of each phenotype...

Protein disulfide isomerases (PDIs) negatively regulate ebolavirus structural glycoprotein expression in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) via the autophagy-lysosomal pathway

Bin Wang, Jing Zhang, Xin Liu, Qingqing Chai, Xiaoran Lu, Xiaoyu Yao, Zhichang Yang, Liangliang Sun, Silas F. Johnson, Richard C Schwartz & Yong-Hui Zheng
Zaire ebolavirus (EBOV) causes a severe hemorrhagic fever in humans and non-human primates with high morbidity and mortality. EBOV infection is dependent on its structural glycoprotein (GP), but high levels of GP expression also trigger cell rounding, detachment, and downregulation of many surface molecules that is thought to contribute to its high pathogenicity. Thus, EBOV has evolved an RNA editing mechanism to reduce its GP expression and increase its fitness. We now report that the...

A defective lysophosphatidic acid-autophagy axis increases miscarriage risk by restricting decidual macrophage residence

Hui-Li Yang, Zhen-Zhen Lai, Jia-Wei Shi, Wen-Jie Zhou, Jie Mei, Jiang-Feng Ye, Tao Zhang, Jian Wang, Jian-Yuan Zhao, Da-Jin Li & Ming-Qing Li
Massive infiltrated and enriched decidual macrophages (dMφ) have been widely regarded as important regulators of maternal-fetal immune tolerance and trophoblast invasion, contributing to normal pregnancy. However, the characteristics of metabolic profile and the underlying mechanism of dMφ residence remain largely unknown. Here, we observe that dMφ display an active glycerophospholipid metabolism. The activation of ENPP2-lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) facilitates the adhesion and retention, and M2 differentiation of dMφ during normal pregnancy. Mechanistically, this process is mediated...
