Cadomian crust of Eastern Iran: evidence from the Tapeh Tagh granitic gneisses
Habib Mollai, Rahim Dabiri, Habib Allah Torshizian, Georgia Pe-Piper & Wei Wang
Late Neoproterozoic to Early Cambrian (Cadomian) magmatic rocks are abundant in Iran, but their occurrence in east-central Iran is voluminous. This paper reports, for the first time, on the Cadomian rocks of the eastern Iranian region known as Tapeh Tagh and deals with their geochemistry and uranium-lead (U-Pb) zircon ages. The Tapeh Tagh region contains masses of Cadomian meta-igneous rocks (including various types of granitic gneiss) and overlying meta-sedimentary rocks. The granitic gneisses show tectonic...
HIF-1α promotes the keloid development through the activation of TGF-β/Smad and TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathways
Rui Lei, Jian Li, Feng Liu, Weihan Li, Shizhen Zhang, Yang Wang, Xi Chu & Jinghong Xu
A keloid is defined as an overgrowth of the dense fibrous tissues that form around a wound. Since they destroy the vascular network, keloid tissues often exhibit anoxic conditions. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is a core factor that mediates hypoxia stress responses and regulates the hypoxic cellular and biological behaviors. In this study, we found that the expression level of HIF-1α in keloid tissue was significantly higher than that in the normal skin tissue. Hypoxia-induced HIF-1α...
Pig as a reservoir of CRISPR type TST4 Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium monophasic variant during 2009–2017 in China

CRISPR-based typing was performed to subtype isolates of S. Typhimurium and its monophasic variant Salmonella 4,[5],12:i:- from humans and animals between 2009 and 2017 in China. CRISPR typing classified all isolates into two lineages and four sub-lineages. All isolates from Lineage II and Lineage IB-1 were Salmonella Typhimurium. All of Salmonella 4,[5],12:i: – isolates were distributed in Lineage IA and Lineage IB-2, which all belonged to ST34 by MLST typing. Only Lineage IB-2 contained ST34...

Zebrafish erythropoietin a (epoa) is a well characterized regulator of red blood cell formation. Recent morpholino mediated knockdown data have also identified epoa being essential for physiological pronephros development in zebrafish, which is driven by blocking apoptosis in developing kidneys. Yet, zebrafish mutants for epoa have not been described so far. In order to compare a transient knockdown vs. permanent knockout for epoa in zebrafish on pronephros development, we used CRISPR/Cas9 technology to generate epoa...
MiR-150-5p retards the progression of myocardial fibrosis by targeting EGR1
Jie Shen, Wanhong Xing, Fangqi Gong, Wei Wang, Yufeng Yan, Yiying Zhang, Chunhong Xie & Songling Fu
To investigate the differential expression of microRNA-150-5p (miR-150-5p) and early growth response 1 (EGR1) in myocardial fibrosis (MF) cells, and determine the effect between miR-150-5p and EGR1 on MF. Human MF cells were generated via Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi) infection, a mouse model of MF was generated via angiotensin II. The expression levels of miR-150-5p and EGR1 were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot assay. The correlation between miR-150-5p and...
Circular RNA ZFR accelerates non-small cell lung cancer progression by acting as a miR-101-3p sponge to enhance CUL4B expression
Haifeng Zhang, Xiaolong Wang, Baoli Hu, Feng Zhang, Haitao Wei & Li Li
Non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer. Circular RNA ZFR (circZFR) is an identified circular RNA (circRNA) that is correlated with cancer progression. However, the role of circZFR in NSCLC remains unknown. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the function of circZFR in NSCLC and the underlying mechanism. The expression patterns of circZFR were determined using qRT-PCR in NSCLC samples and cell lines. The subcellular distribution of circZFR...

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have vastly expanded our view of RNA world in intracellular signal regulating networks. Here, we functionally characterized a normally highly expressed miRNA, miR-30a-5p (MIMAT0000087), which exhibits downregulated expression profiles in prostate cancer samples. MiR-30a-5p knockdown and overexpression in PC-3 cell line alters cell proliferation supporting a tumour suppressor role. We also discovered that PCLAF is the direct target of miR-30a-5p. Notably, PC-3 cell proliferation is inhibited by miR-30a-5p/PCLAF axis. miR-30a-5p represents a novel...

Large-scale quantitative genomics analyzes the circRNA expression profile and identifies the key circRNA in regulating cell proliferation during the proliferation phase of rat LR
Xueqiang Guo, Wei Jin, Cuifang Chang, Yi Ding, Yahao Wang, Lifei Li, Yanhui Chen, Jingbo Zhang, Cunshuan Xu, Guangwen Chen & Jianlin Guo
Researchers have been exploring the genetic mechanisms underlying the control of liver regeneration (LR). However, an integrated analysis of circRNAs expression of rat regenerating livers during the proliferation phase has not been performed yet. For this purpose, circRNAs expression profile was globally analyzed by high-throughput sequencing. It showed that 10,003 circRNAs were detected, and 164 circRNAs were differentially expressed. Subsequently, 27 circRNAs were predicted to bind to 58 candidate miRNAs and compete for miRNA-binding sites...

Data from: Antibiotic susceptibility of Propionibacterium acnes isolated from patients with acne in a public hospital in Southwest China: prospective cross-sectional study
Ting T Zhu, Wen Y Zhu & Dong J Sun
Objective Antibiotics have been routinely used for several decades against Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), but antibiotic resistance of P. acnes is becoming a global problem. Only one related Chinese study is available. The aim of this study was to assess the antibiotic susceptibility of P. acnes obtained from patients with acne in Southwest China. Design This was a prospective cross-sectional study. Cutaneous samples were obtained from acne lesions on the face of 375 patients. Samples...
