Fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) mediates signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3)-drived resistance of breast cancer to doxorubicin

Yan Wang, Zhiqiang Cheng, Jing Xu, Meina Lai, Liming Liu, Min Zuo & Lin Dang
Excessive activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is implicated in breast cancer (BC) chemoresistance, but its underlying mechanism is not fully understood. There are STAT3 binding sites in fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) promoter region, thus STAT3 may regulate the transcription of FTO. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between FTO and STAT3 in BC chemoresistance. Herein, FTO and STAT3 were highly expressed in doxorubicin-resistant BC (BC-DoxR) cells. CHIP...

LINC00857 regulated by ZNF460 enhances the expression of CLDN12 by sponging miR-150-5p and recruiting SRSF1 for alternative splicing to promote epithelial-mesenchymal transformation of pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells

Yong Zhang, Yuan Fang, Lijie Ma, Jing Xu, Chentao Lv, Li Deng & Guanghui Zhu
Recent research unveiled that LINC00857 plays a regulatory role in multiple human cancers, such as lung adenocarcinoma and gastric cancer. Nevertheless, the function of LINC00857 in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) remains unclear. This study concentrates on LINC00857 to discuss the relevant molecular mechanism of this gene in PAAD. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot were implemented for measuring the expressions of RNAs and proteins. Wound healing and Transwell assays were used to...

Coronavirus-associated kidney outcomes in COVID-19, SARS, and MERS: a meta-analysis and systematic review

Shoulian Zhou, Jing Xu, Cheng Xue, Bo Yang, Zhiguo Mao & Albert C. M. Ong
A meta-analysis and systematic review was conducted on kidney-related outcomes of three recent pandemics: SARS, MERS, and COVID-19, which were associated with potentially fatal acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). A search of all published studies until 16 June 2020 was performed. The incidence/prevalence and mortality risk of acute and chronic renal events were evaluated, virus prevalence, and mortality in preexisting hemodialysis patients was investigated. A total of 58 eligible studies involving 13452 hospitalized patients with...

Chloroquine (CQ), a lysosomotropic agent, is commonly used to inhibit lysosomal degradation and macroautophagy/autophagy. Here we investigated the cell-extrinsic effects of CQ on secretion. We showed that lysosomal and autophagy inhibition by CQ altered the secretome, and induced the release of Atg8 orthologs and autophagy receptors. Atg8-family proteins, in particular, were secreted inside small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) in a lipidation-dependent manner. CQ treatment enhanced the release of Atg8-family proteins inside sEVs. Using full-length ATG16L1 and...

Data from: Understanding the formation of ancient intertropical disjunct distributions using Asian and Neotropical hinged-teeth snakes (Sibynophis and Scaphiodontophis: Serpentes: Colubridae)

Xin Chen, Song Huang, Peng Guo, Guarino R. Colli, Adrián Nieto Montes De Oca, Laurie J. Vitt, R. Alexander Pyron & Frank T. Burbrink
Numerous taxa show ancient intertropical disjunct distributions. Many can be explained by well-known processes of historical vicariance, such as the breakup of Gondwanaland. Others, such as Asian–Neotropical divergences are not as well understood. To clarify the phylogenetic position and understand biogeographic and temporal origins the geographically disjunct and morphologically unique genera of hinged-teeth snakes, Scaphiodontophis (n = 1) and Sibynophis (n = 9; Colubridae), we inferred a time-calibrated phylogeny with additional 107 taxa representing the...

RESEARCH ON WIND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION OF PLASTIC GREENHOUSES IN VALLEY TOPOGRAPHY

Jing Xu, Guifeng He, Xiaoying Ren & Zhikang Hu
ABSTRACT As the wind pressure distribution on plastic greenhouses in valley areas is different from that of greenhouses on plains, it is necessary to find out the variation trend of the wind pressure coefficient on greenhouses in the valley areas. Based on the ‘Realizable k-e turbulence’ model, the wind pressure characteristics on plastic greenhouses located in valley and plain areas are studied by using the verified numerical simulation method. The wind pressures on greenhouses and...

Data from: Assessing species boundaries and the phylogenetic position of the rare Szechwan Ratsnake, Euprepiophis perlacea (Serpentes: Colubridae), using coalescent-based methods

Xin Chen, Ke Jiang, Peng Guo, Song Huang, Dingqi Rao, Li Ding, Hirohiko Takeuchi, Jing Che, Yaping Zhang, Edward A. Myers, Frank T. Burbrink & Ya-Ping Zhang
Delimiting species and clarifying phylogenetic relationships are the main goals of systematics. For species with questionable taxonomic status, species delimitation approaches using multi-species coalescent models with multiple loci are recommended if morphological data are unavailable or unhelpful. Moreover, these methods will also reduce subjectivity based on genetic distance or requirement of monophyletic genetic lineages. We determine the validity and phylogenetic position of a rare and long controversial species of Chinese reptile, the Szechwan ratsnake (Euprepiophis...

Data from: A new moth-preying alpine pitviper species from Qinghai-Tibetan plateau (Viperidae, Crotalinae)

The Sanjiangyuan region of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is recognized as a biodiversity hotspot of alpine mammals but a barren area in terms of amphibians and reptiles. Here, we describe a new pit viper species, Gloydius rubromaculatus sp. n. Shi, Li and Liu, 2017 that was discovered in this region, with a brief taxonomic revision of the genus Gloydius. The new species can be distinguished from the other congeneric species by the following characteristics: cardinal crossbands on...
