During sliding of metallic surfaces, the near surfaces undergo significant changes in terms of topography, composition and microstructure. Since friction and wear behavior of the materials are strongly influenced by sub-surface deformations, it is fundamental to investigate these effects. Therefore, the present study aims towards a better understanding of the behavior of friction depending on well-defined initial microstructures. By performing sliding experiments on Au-Ni multilayer samples under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions, we observe that the...

Digital Artefacts and Appendix for the Dissertation of Moritz v. Looz
Moritz Von Looz
The corresponding dissertation contains several types of experiments. The graph generation experiments were conducted on a shared-memory machine with 16 cores. To reproduce these experiments, this package contains a docker image. For the experiments regarding large-scale graph partitioning, we used phase 1 of the SuperMUC cluster, including tens of thousands of cores. For this set of experiments, we do not include a script to reproduce it, as the original computing environment is no longer available...

Frederik Vom Scheidt, Carmen Müller, Philipp Staudt & Christof Weinhardt
This publication includes data for the German electricity system in 2030 and a corresponding documentation of the methodology of data acquisition and preprocessing. The data set includes 1.) topological data on the transmission grid, the generation infrastructure and the demand, 2.) a time series of electricity demand in 2030 in an hourly resolution, 3.) a time series of renewable generation in 2030 in an hourly resolution, and 4.) dispatchable generation capacity and costs in 2030....
Training data and emulators for the analysis of sensitivity of deep convective clouds and hail to environmental conditions and microphysics
Marie-Constanze Wellmann
This study aims to identify whether model parameters describing atmospheric conditions such as wind shear or model parameters related to cloud microphysics such as the fall velocity of hail lead to larger uncertainties in the prediction of deep convective clouds. In an idealized setup of a cloud-resolving model including a two-moment microphysics scheme we use the approach of statistical emulation to allow for a Monte Carlo sampling of the parameter space, which enables a comprehensive...

This study aims to identify model parameters describing atmospheric conditions such as wind shear and CCN concentration which lead to large uncertainties in the prediction of deep convective clouds.
In an idealized setup of a cloud-resolving model including a two-moment microphysics scheme we use the approach of statistical emulation to allow for a Monte Carlo sampling of the parameter space, which enables a comprehensive sensitivity analysis. We analyze the impact of six uncertain input parameters...
The MIPAS/Envisat climatology (2002–2012) of polar stratospheric cloud (PSC) volume density profiles
Michael Höpfner, Gabriele Stiller & Thomas Von Clarmann
A global data set of vertical profiles of polar stratospheric cloud (PSC) volume density has been derived from Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) space-borne infrared limb measurements between 2002 and 2012. To develop a well characterized and efficient retrieval scheme, systematic tests based on limb-radiance simulations for PSCs from in-situ balloon observations have been performed . The finally selected wavenumber range was 831–832.5 cm-1.

Tobias Karl & Davide Gatti
The present work discusses the impact of the back coupling of the fiber orientation distribution on the base flow and on the fiber orientation itself during mold filling simulations. Flows through a channel and over a backward-facing step are investigated. Different closure approximations are considered for modeling the flow induced evolution of anisotropy. Results corresponding to the decoupled approach, in which the effect of fibers on local fluid properties is neglected, build the basis of...
