N. S. Research Laboratories, St. Xavier's College, Bombay-400 001 Manuscript received 7 October 1986, revised 27 August 1981, accepted 30 October 1981 Ethyl-2-hydroxyquinoxaline-3- carboxylate with phosphorous oxy- chlorude gave ethyl-2-chloro-quinoxaline-3-carboxylate. This compound upon treatment with morpholine gave ethyl-2-morpholinoquinoxaline-3- carboxylate (A). The ester (A) with hydrazine hydrate (99%) gave the corresponding carboxyhydrazide (B). This carboxyhydrazide when reacted with various aryl aldehyde yielded the corresponding Schiff bases, 1-(3'- quinoxalinoyl-2'-morpholino)-2-benzalhydrazines (1a-g), These Schiff bases were then condensed with...

What a difference a new fossil makes! Phylica (Rhamnaceae), unchanged for 100 million years, implies flowering plants had a Permian origin

Byron B Lamont & Tianhua He
Phylogenetic reconstruction based on 100-million-year-old flowering shoots of Rhamnaceae places the origin of flowering plants at over 270 million years ago.

PROVERBS IN TERMS OF TRANSLATION

Unquestionable, passing through the world of translation opens new windows for acquaintance with the literature, language and culture of those who think, behave and look at the world in the same way and differently. While walking through many linguistic features seems much less problematic, capturing what will be conveyed through non-linguistic features is the most difficult. Among these non-linguistic features, including figurative techniques, proverbs will be considered in this article. First, some definitions are presented,...

Study of avian diversity in urban areas of Gujranwala, Pakistan

Muhammad Altaf
Avifauna diversity of densely populated and important agricultural district Gujranwala in Punjab province was assessed for a period of one year. The area was initially part of tropical thorn forest and was changed into urban and agriculture landscapes. Present study was planned to assess the avian diversity of urban and peri-urban areas of Gujranwala district. The data were calculated through computer-based software PAST to record the diversity indices. A total of 22 avian species were...

Synchronous primary endometrial and ovarian cancers: a case report

, Adonakis Georgios, Androutsopoulos Georgios, , , &
Synchronous primary cancers of the endometrium and ovary are relatively uncommon in general population. The patient, a 49-year-old postmenopausal Greek woman presented with abdominal pain and pelvic mass. She underwent total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, total omentectomy, appendectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection. The histopathology revealed synchronous primary cancers of the endometrium and right ovary. She underwent postoperative chemotherapy. Thirty nine months after surgery, she remains well without evidence of recurrence.

Time-dependent Quantum Mechanical Study of H2 Chemisorption on W(001 )

&
Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur- 208 016 Preliminary results of a time-dependent quantum mechanical study of the chemisorption dynamics of H2 on W(001) using a model potential-energy surface are presented. In particular, vibrational excitation of H2 is shown to enhance the probability of chemisorption.

Increasing interoperability for research clouds: CS3APIs for connecting sync&share storage, applications and science environments

Hugo Gonzalez Labrador, Jakub T. Mościcki, Massimo Lamanna & Alberto Pace
Cloud Services for Synchronization and Sharing (CS3) [14] have become increasing popular in the European Education and Research landscape in the last years. Services such as CERNBox, SWITCHdrive, SURFdrive, PSNCBox, Sciebo, CloudStor and many more have become indispensable in everyday work for scientists, engineers, educators and other users in public research and education sector. CS3 services are currently too fragmented and lack interoperability. To fix this problem and interconnect storage-, applicationand research services a set...

ACCELERATED BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION AND ITS RECENT TREND

Karlee Schweigert, Yoon-Si Lee, Cody Gastel & Sadit Maharjan
Abstract: Accelerated bridge construction is a relatively new method of construction but has gained popularity in recent decades among the bridge engineering community due to its notable advantages over conventional construction methods including fast project delivery, reduced traffic impairment and construction hazards, and increased quality and cost-effectiveness. Continuous efforts in research by academia and construction industry have allowed the accelerated bridge construction to be implemented for almost any part of a bridge in different ways....

Waste/Recycled Plastics in Concrete

Yoon-Si Lee
Abstract: While the use of plastics has gradually increased in our daily lives due to its user-friendly features, lightness and cost-effectiveness, scientific and engineering communities have raised their concerns in recent decades regarding the harmful effects caused from the usage and disposal of plastics on our environment. Also, from an environmental point of view, concrete production heavily contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and the majority of construction materials are produced from natural resources. Therefore, there...

FEATURES OF THYROID FUNCTION IN WOMEN WITH SUBCLINICAL HYPOTHYROIDISM TREATED WITH LEVOTHYROXINE DURING PREGNANCY

Negmatullaeva M.N., & F.F. Burumkulova
Summary. In this study, we examined the pattern of thyroid function in women with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) treated with levothyroxine (LT4) throughout pregnancy and determined the optimal dosage of LT4 for these women. Subclinical hypothyroidism during pregnancy is especially dangerous because it does not manifest itself, and, therefore, the consequences can be the most severe. Нypothyroidism is an underactive thyroid gland. Subclinical hypothyroidism is characterized by the absence of symptoms, but at the same time,...

LINGUACULTUROLOGICAL PECULIARITIES OF TOPONOMY IN THE UZBEK AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

Abstract. The picture of the world is a fundamental concept, which is a certain way structured information about objective reality in the minds of an individual and a collective, speaking the same language. Hence, it is implicitly present in the consciousness of a linguistic personality, reflecting a strictly structured system of knowledge and ideas acquired throughout an individual’s life. In essence, the picture of the world is a system of the individual’s ideas about reality...
