Matrix Factor Analysis: From Least Squares to Iterative Projection

Yong He, Xinbing Kong, Long Yu, Xinsheng Zhang & Changwei Zhao
In this article, we study large-dimensional matrix factor models and estimate the factor loading matrices and factor score matrix by minimizing square loss function. Interestingly, the resultant estimators coincide with the Projected Estimators (PE) in Yu et al. which was proposed from the perspective of simultaneous reduction of the dimensionality and the magnitudes of the idiosyncratic error matrix. In other word, we provide a least-square interpretation of the PE for the matrix factor model, which...

Fracture behavior of high-strength bolts and connections in the whole process of fire

Qiao Chen, Jian Jiang, Wei Chen & Jihong Ye
High-strength bolts have been widely used in steel bolted connections, and fire-induced high temperatures will affect its basic mechanical properties and fracture behavior, leading to failure of the connection and even collapse of the overall structure. Tensile experiments are conducted on Grade 10.9 high-strength bolts to investigate the effect of stress triaxiality and heating history on their mechanical and fracture properties in the whole process of fire. The true stress-strain curves are obtained to determine...

Nonparametric adaptive CUSUM chart for detecting arbitrary distributional changes

Jun Li
Nonparametric control charts that can detect arbitrary distributional changes are highly desirable due to their flexibility to adapt to different distributional assumptions and changes. However, most of the nonparametric control charts in the literature either can only detect location changes, or involve intensive computation. In this article, we propose a new nonparametric adaptive CUSUM chart. The proposed control chart can detect arbitrary distributional changes and is computationally efficient. Its self-starting nature makes the proposed control...

Yaoliang Lu, Jian Jiang, Wenyu Cai, Wei Chen & Jihong Ye
As an important component in steel connections, high-strength bolts have a high stress level and may experience creep deformation at high temperatures. This will lead to great deformation and even failure of steel connections, thus affecting progressive collapse resistance of steel structures. This paper experimentally and numerically investigates the creep behavior of 10.9 high-strength bolts under and after fire. The creep strain-time curves at different temperatures and stress levels were obtained using DIC measurement systems....
