The effect of gestational diabetes on identification of key genes and pathways in human umbilical vein endothelial cell by integrated bioinformatics analysis

Jing Liu, Guang Song, Tao Meng, Ge Zhao & Si Si
Maternal diabetes may lead to long-term risks for the offspring. The study aims at identifying the potential crucial genes and pathways associated with foetal metabolism and malformation of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Gene Expression Series 49524 and 87295 were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus database, including eight from GDM and eight from non-GDM. A total of 35 differentially expressed genes were identified. Gene ontology functional annotation and signalling pathway analyses were performed. Four hub genes...

Amphiphilic block polymer-based self-assembly of high payload nanoparticles for efficient combinatorial chemo-photodynamic therapy

Qisan Ma, Yanna Zhao, Qingran Guan, Yuping Zhao, Huaizhen Zhang, Zhuang Ding, Qingpeng Wang, Yushu Wu, Min Liu & Jun Han
Combinatorial chemo-photodynamic therapy is regared as effective cancer therapy strategy, which could be realized via multiple nano-drug delivery system. Herein, novel high payload nanoparticles stabilized by amphiphilic block polymer cholesterol-b-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)2000 (Chol-PEG2000) were fabricated for loading chemotherapeutic drug 10-hydroxycamptothecin (HCPT) and photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6). The obtained HCPT/Ce6 NPs showed uniform rod-like morphology with a hydration diameter of 178.9 ± 4.0 nm and excellent stability in aqueous solution. HCPT and Ce6 in the NPs...

Objectives To estimate the attack rates, and identify the risk factors of COVID-19 infection. Methods Based on a retrospective cohort study, we investigated 11,580 contacts of COVID-19 cases in Guangdong Province from January 10 to March 15, 2020. All contacts were tested by RT-PCR to detect their infection of SARS-COV-2. Attack rates by characteristics were calculated, and logistic regression was used to estimate the risk factors of infection for COVID-19. Results A total of 515...

Corticosteroid prevents COVID-19 progression within its therapeutic window: a multicenter, proof-of-concept, observational study.

Yang Li, Xian Zhou, Tao Li, Shiji Chan, Yiqi Yu, Jing-Wen Ai, Haocheng Zhang, Feng Sun, Qiran Zhang, Lei Zhu, Lingyun Shao, Bin Xu & Wenhong Zhang
Background: Critically ill patients with COVID-19 are of grave concern. Those patients usually underwent a stage of excessive inflammation before developing acute respiratory distress syndrome. In this study, we test the hypothesis that short-term, low-to-moderate-dose corticosteroids would benefit patients when used in the early phase of excessive inflammation namely, the therapeutic window. Methods: Among a Shanghai cohort and a validation cohort, we enrolled COVID-19 patients showing marked radiographic progression. Short-term, low-to-moderate-dose corticosteroids were considered for...

Silk fibroin hydrogel as mucosal vaccine carrier: induction of gastric CD4+TRM cells mediated by inflammatory response induces optimal immune protection against Helicobacter felis

Chupeng Hu, Wei Liu, Ningyin Xu, An Huang, Zhenxing Zhang, Menghui Fan, Guojing Ruan, Yue Wang, Tao Xi & Yingying Xing
Tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells, located in the epithelium of most peripheral tissues, constitute the first-line defense against pathogen infections. Our previous study reported that gastric subserous layer (GSL) vaccination induced a “pool” of protective tissue-resident memory CD4+T (CD4+TRM) cells in the gastric epithelium. However, the mechanistic details how CD4+TRM cells form in the gastric epithelium are unknown. Here, our results suggested that the vaccine containing CCF in combination with Silk fibroin hydrogel (SF) broadened...
