Swedish National Seismic Network

SNSN
The Swedish National Seismic Network (SNSN) started with the installation of a Wiechert seismograph in Uppsala in 1904. Since 1998 the SNSN is a part of the Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University. The SNSN operates the only permanent, earthquake focused seismic network in Sweden and is responsible for detecting and recording earthquakes in Sweden. Near real-time automatic event detection has been an integral part of SNSN operations since 2000 and continuous 100 Hz...

GNSS, seismic broadband and strong motion permanent networks in West Indies

Institut De Physique Du Globe De Paris- IPGP
The WI network is composed of stations geographically distributed all along the Lesser Antilles subduction zone, from Grenada in the south, to St Barthélémy in the north. The stations all share the following features: (1) very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite telemetry, (2) solar power and 10-day battery, (3) multi sensor stations with broadband seismometer (Nanometrics - Trillium120s or 240s) , accelerometer (Kinemetrics - Episensors +/- 2G) and continuous GNSS (Trimble, NetR9), (4) vault and...

GEOSCOPE, French Global Network of broad band seismic stations

Institut De Physique Du Globe De Paris (IPGP) & Ecole Et Observatoire Des Sciences De La Terre De Strasbourg (EOST)
The GEOSCOPE network (G) is a global seismological network created in 1982 to respond to the challenge of instrumenting isolated sites all around the world. The GEOSCOPE network is primarily dedicated to research and its data are used for studies of Earth structure and dynamics, seismic sources, time dependent seismology and environmental seismology. It currently runs 33 seismic stations, all of which are now equipped to provide real-time data, used for rapid source determination (among...

Measuring the visual salience of curves by their non-accidentalness

Samy Blusseau, Alejandra Carboni, Alejandro Maiche, Jean-Michel Morel & Rafael Grompone Von Gioi
A well known result in psychophysical studies of good continuation in arrays of Gabor elements is that the visual system is better at detecting smooth paths rather than jagged ones, and all the more so as they are formed by elements that are roughly aligned to the local tangent of the contour (association field). Here we
present a similar experiment on contour detection, and a stochastic model that predicts and interprets the perceptual thresholds for this...

Mediterranean Very Broadband Seismographic Network (MedNet)

MedNet Project Partner Institutions
The Mediterranean Very Broadband Seismographic Network (MedNet) constitutes a backbone network of highest quality broadband stations in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean region is characterised by a very complex tectonic environment and by high seismicity due to the over-all convergence of two major plates. Therefore, and to ensure regional coverage at a time where availability of seismic broadband instruments was still scarce, the MedNet project established this network primarily as a scientific...

Seismic network YP: CIFALPS temporary experiment (China-Italy-France Alps seismic transect)

Liang Zhao, Anne Paul, Stefano Solarino & RESIF

Duration: 14 months. 46 stations in the linear array from the Rhone valley to the central Po plain; 5 to 10 km spacing. 9 offline station at ~40 km distance north and south of the linear array. Goal: imaging of the crust and upper mantle using earthquakes and noise records. Sensors: mostly Nanometrics Trillium-120, with a few Güralp...

Seismic network XS:CHILE MAULE aftershock temporary experiment (RESIF-SISMOB)

Jean-Pierre Vilotte & RESIF
After the 2010 maule earthquake mainshock, 41 seismological SISMOB’s stations were deployed: 26 CMG40 HH, 14 CMG5 HN and 1 Episensor HN sensors, all connected to 24 bits Taurus acquisition systems. The stations were installed on rocky sites and their location was defined following the information provided by USGS on rupture extension and aftershocks localization. All the stations are in continuous recording mode, at 100 Hz. The stations were spread along the Chilean coast, and...

A comparison of four methods of endotracheal tube passage in simulated airways ‐ Is there room for improved techniques?

Kirsten Kingma, Ross Hofmeyr, Irene Zeng, Christin Coomarasamy & Andrew Brainard
Background / Aims

Passage of an endotracheal tube (ETT) into the trachea is an essential portion of airway management. Four different methods aid ETT are frequently advocated: a ‘naked’ ETT without adjuncts, a preformed stylet inside an ETT, a bougie followed by a railroaded ETT, and an ETT with preloaded bougie. There is currently minimal evidence to support which method is best for first pass success rate (FPS).

We aimed to demonstrate which method has the highest...

Effective brain connectivity through a constrained autoregressive model

Alessandro Crimi, Luca Dodero, Vittorio Murino & Diego Sona
Integration of functional and structural brain connectivity is a topic receiving growing attention in the research community. Their fusion can, in fact, shed new light on brain functions. Targeting this issue, the manuscript proposes a constrained autoregressive model allowing to generate an “effective” connectivity matrix that model the structural connectivity integrating the functional activity. In practice, an initial structural connectivity representation is altered according to functional data, by minimizing the reconstruction error of an autoregressive...

Nephele: A cloud-based scientific computing platform for improved efficiency, standardization, and collaboration in microbiome data analysis

Ian Misner, Jennifer Dommer, Samuel Ezeji, Lewis Kim, David Liou, Philip Macmenamin, Karlynn Noble, Andrew Oler, Mariam Quiñones, Conrad Shyu, Nick Weber & Darrell Hurt
Nephele is a cloud computing platform for microbiome research, aimed at providing scientists with a consistent, centralized, and collaborative environment for high-throughput metagenomics data analysis.

Growing evidence supports a critical role for microbiota in human health and disease; 16S and whole genome sequence (WGS) analyses are critical to understanding this relationship, but analysis of large and complex datasets requires advanced computing infrastructure and sophisticated software that are inaccessible to many researchers. Nephele bridges this gap...

Rivière des Pluies Project, La Réunion Island, 2015-2018

Fabrice R. Fontaine, Guilhem Barruol & Alicia Gonzalez
In the frame of the Rivière des Pluies project, a temporary seismic network of approximately 10 three-component broadband seismometers was deployed around two rivers of La Réunion Island: Rivière des Pluies and Rivière du Mât. The goal of the project is to monitor spatial and temporal variations of the river’s bed-load during tropical cyclones with high-frequency noise.
