Enhanced high-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

Gottfried Otting
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is the most powerful analytical tool in chemistry, ranging from small molecules to 3D structure determinations of large biomolecules such as proteins and DNA. This application is for a probe that offers the highest possible sensitivity of detection, about 2.5 times higher than the current probe, which is a loaned item and partly defect. The new probe is essential to regain full operation of the 800 MHz NMR spectrometer at...

Suharto's Enablers? Social complicity in the Indonesian killings of 1965-66

Eva Nisa
This projects aims to revolutionise understandings of civilian involvement in the most critical and bloody turning point in modern Indonesian history, the 1965-66 killings, and to transform the evidence base for Indonesian history-writing. By accessing critically endangered and never before used survivor community archives, the project will examine the complicity of civilians in the killings and how the violence shaped modern Indonesian national identity and moral consciousness. It will further generate a new, centralised archive...

Community Rule-Making in the Pacific Islands as Regulatory Innovation

Miranda Forsyth
This project investigates the widespread phenomena of ‘community rule-making’ in Pacific Island countries, in which local communities engage in deliberative processes oriented towards development of new normative orders. Occurring largely outside of state-sanctioned authority, such processes may address social problems such as gender based violence, crime and poverty, and frequently occur in the context of other locally-driven attempts at community regeneration. Through collaborative empirical research in PNG, Vanuatu and Fiji, our project will build an...
