The levels of food safety and animal welfare for the egg supply chain in the Netherlands are high. Nonetheless further improvements could be made as indicated in this risk assessment. Food safety risks are mainly caused by Salmonella. Consumers can act themselves by storing eggs after purchase in the refrigerator at a maximum temperature of 7 °C.
