‘Mito-Bomb’: a novel mitochondria-targeting nanosystem for ferroptosis-boosted sonodynamic antitumor therapy
Jianxin Wang, Zhiyu Zhao, Yan Liu, Xinyu Cao, Fuxin Li, Haitao Ran, Yang Cao & Changjun Wu
Mitochondria play an important role in regulating tumor cell death and metabolism so that they can be potential therapeutic targets. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) represents an attractive antitumor method that induces apoptosis by producing highly toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS). Mitochondria-targeting SDT can cause oxidative damage and improve the efficiency of tumor therapy. However, due to the nonselective distribution of nanosystems and the anti-apoptotic mechanism of cancer cells, the therapeutic effect of SDT is not ideal....

In China, the number of newly reported HIV infections in older people is increasing rapidly. However, clear information on the impact of older people on HIV transmission is limited. This study aims to reveal the local HIV transmission patterns, especially how older people affect virus transmission. Subtype analysis based on available pol sequences obtained from HIV patients revealed that CRF01_AE and CRF08_BC were predominant in patients aged <50 years, whereas CRF01_AE was predominant in older...

Yan Liang, Linyan Zhang, Chunling Lai, Zhigang Ouyang & Jun Zhang
Fifteen compounds including one flavanone hesperitin (1), two cinnamic acid derivatives as (E)-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (2) and (E)-ferulic acid (3), eight polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) (4-11), and four hydroxylated PMFs (12-15) isolated from orange peel were subjected to antibacterial evaluation. Compounds 1-3 exhibited wide-spectrum antibacterial effects against four test strains involving Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc), and Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 0.0312 to 0.125 mg/mL. In contrast,...
