One novel naphthalene derivative and other constituents with anti-complementary activities from the aerial parts of Dracocephalum moldavica

Jia-Ming Wang, Jin-Feng Sun, Long Jin, Meng-Jie Wang, Yan-Yan Huang, Mei Jin, Wei Zhou & Gao Li
One novel naphthalene derivative, 2-octa-2′,4′,6′-atriynenaphthalene (1), together with eighteen known compounds (2–19) were isolated from the aerial parts of Dracocephalum moldavica L. Compounds 2, 8, 10, 13, 15–17 and 19 were obtained from the family Lamiaceae for the first time, and compounds 11 and 18 were firstly identified from the genus of Dracocephalum. All the isolates were evaluated for anti-complementary activities through the classical and alternative pathways, and the targets of the most active compounds...

Maternal Mediterranean diet in pregnancy and newborn DNA methylation: a meta-analysis in the PACE Consortium

Mulder, Emily Oken, Laura Johnson, Mariona Bustamante, Vincent W.V. Jaddoe, Marie-France Hivert, Anne P. Starling, Jeanne H.M. de Vries, Gemma C. Sharp, Martine Vrijheid & Janine F. Felix
Higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet during pregnancy is related to a lower risk of preterm birth and to better offspring cardiometabolic health. DNA methylation may be an underlying biological mechanism. We evaluated whether maternal adherence to the Mediterranean diet was associated with offspring cord blood DNA methylation. We meta-analysed epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) of maternal adherence to the Mediterranean diet during pregnancy and offspring cord blood DNA methylation in 2802 mother–child pairs from five...

Efficient Learning of Quadratic Variance Function Directed Acyclic Graphs via Topological Layers

Wei Zhou, Xin He, Wei Zhong & Junhui Wang
Directed acyclic graph (DAG) models are widely used to represent casual relationships among random variables in many application domains. This article studies a special class of non-Gaussian DAG models, where the conditional variance of each node given its parents is a quadratic function of its conditional mean. Such a class of non-Gaussian DAG models are fairly flexible and admit many popular distributions as special cases, including Poisson, Binomial, Geometric, Exponential, and Gamma. To facilitate learning,...

OBJECTIVES: To investigate serological differences between SARS-CoV-2 reinfection cases and contemporary controls, to identify antibody correlates of protection against reinfection. METHODS: We performed a case-control study, comparing reinfection cases with singly infected individuals pre-vaccination, matched by gender, age, region and timing of first infection. Serum samples were tested for anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike (anti-S), anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (anti-N), live virus microneutralisation (LV-N) and pseudovirus microneutralisation (PV-N). Results were analysed using fixed effect linear regression and fitted into conditional...

Clinical, radiologic, and pathologic features of the globular glial tauopathy subtype of frontotemporal lobar degeneration in right temporal variant frontotemporal dementia with salient features of Geschwind syndrome

Sylvia Josephy-Hernandez, Michael Brickhouse, Samantha Champion, David Dongkyung Kim, Alexandra Touroutoglou, Matthew Frosch & Bradford C. Dickerson
Globular Glial Tauopathy (GGT) is a rare form of Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration (FTLD) consisting of 4-repeat tau globular inclusions in astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. We present the pathological findings of GGT in a previously published case of a 73-year-old woman with behavioral symptoms concerning for right temporal variant frontotemporal dementia with initial and salient features of Geschwind syndrome. Clinically, she lacked motor abnormalities otherwise common in previously published GGT cases. Brain MRI showed focal right anterior...

Informal caregiver training to address functional mobility limitations of stroke survivors: a scoping review

Aileen Chou, Barbara J. Lutz, Scott R. Beach & Janet K. Freburger
Informal caregivers of stroke survivors often report the need for training on how to care for a loved one with functional mobility limitations. Evidence on training interventions to help informal caregivers with issues related to mobility is varied. The objective of this scoping review was to examine the literature including skill-based training interventions that educate caregivers on functional mobility for stroke survivors. We extracted studies from OVID Medline, Cochrane, ISI Web of Knowledge, and Embase...

Development of a transdiagnostic, resilience-focused intervention for at-risk adolescents

Jacqueline A. Clauss, Kamila Bhiku, Anne Burke, Ylira Pimentel-Diaz, Nicole R. DeTore, Sarah Zapetis, Vanya Zvonar, Katherine Kritikos, Katia M. Canenguez, Corinne Cather & Daphne J. Holt
Environmental adversity and subclinical symptoms of psychopathology in adolescents increase their risk for developing a future psychiatric disorder, yet interventions that may prevent poor outcomes in these vulnerable adolescents are not widely available. To develop and test the feasibility and acceptability of a prevention-focused program to enhance resilience in high-risk adolescents. Adolescents with subclinical psychopathology living in a predominantly low-income, Latinx immigrant community were identified during pediatrician visits. A group-based intervention focused on teaching emotion...

Two new iridoid glycosides from Odontites vulgaris

Meng-Jie Wang, De Yang, Sheng-Bao Diao, Zheng-Yu Hu, Hui-Ming Hua, Yu-Qing Zhao, Wei Zhou & Gao Li
Two new iridoid glycosides, named 3′-O-benzoyl-dolichocymboside D (1) and dolichocymboside E (2), along with ten known glycosides (3–12), were isolated from the ethanol extract of the whole plants of Odontites vulgaris Moench. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectra and by comparison with those reported in the literature. This is the first report on compounds 11 and 12 isolated from the family Scrophulariaceae, and compounds 8–10...

Comparison of combustion duration and end-gas autoignition in inwardly and outwardly propagating flames induced by different ignition configurations

Linlin Yang, Yiqing Wang & Zheng Chen
Recently, multiple spark ignition has received great attention since it helps to increase thermal efficiency and to reduce misfire in engines. Multiple spark ignition also affects the combustion duration and thereby it can be used for knock control. However, previous studies reported opposite trends in terms of how multiple spark ignition affects engine knock. This work aims to assess and interpret the influence of flame propagation direction induced by different ignition configurations on combustion duration...
