Adjustable volume and loading release of shape memory polymer microcapsules
Fenghua Zhang, Lu Wang, Qiangwang Geng, Yanju Liu, Jinsong Leng & Stoyan K. Smoukov
Research on microcapsules has been conducted in recent years given trends in miniaturization and novel functionalization. In this work, we designed and prepared a series of unique shape memory polyurethane (SMPU) microcapsules with stimuli-responsive functions. The microcapsule has a core-shell structure in which the surface morphology can be adjusted, and it has a certain load-bearing capacity. In addition, the SMPU microcapsule has a stimuli-responsive function for shape memory and solvent response. The temperature of its...

This scoping review sought to identify and characterize measurement of self-regulation in preschool and elementary aged children. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-Scoping Review (ScR) guidelines were applied. Databases from the fields of allied health, education, medicine, and social sciences were searched including: CINAHL, Education Database (ProQuest), Education Research Complete, EMBASE, ERIC, iNFORMIT Combined, Medline, PsychINFO, Social Sciences (ProQuest), Teacher Reference Center, and Web of Science. Articles published between 2015 and 2020...
Stochastic Tree Search for Estimating Optimal Dynamic Treatment Regimes
Yilun Sun & Lu Wang
A dynamic treatment regime (DTR) is a sequence of decision rules that adapt to the time-varying states of an individual. Black-box learning methods have shown great potential in predicting the optimal treatments; however, the resulting DTRs lack interpretability, which is of paramount importance for medical experts to understand and implement. We present a stochastic tree-based reinforcement learning (ST-RL) method for estimating optimal DTRs in a multistage multitreatment setting with data from either randomized trials or...
Corporate environmental responsibility and employees’ pro-environmental behaviors at work: insights from organizational identification and workplace spirituality perspective
Feng Yang & Lan Gao
Although corporate environmental responsibility (CER) can influence employees’ attitudes and behaviors, little research has been done to explain the effect of different dimensions of CER (e.g. substantive and symbolic CER) on employees’ pro-environmental behaviors at work, and further to explore the underlying mechanism and the boundary condition of this effect. This research built a theoretical model to explain how and when substantive and symbolic CER influences employees’ pro-environmental behaviors. 188 matched supervisor-subordinate dyads were collected...

Impairments, and physical design and culture of a rehabilitation unit influence stroke survivor activity: qualitative analysis of rehabilitation staff perceptions
Heidi Janssen, Marie-Louise Bird, Julie Luker, Ben Sellar, Angela Berndt, Samantha Ashby, Annie McCluskey, Louise Ada, Jannette Blennerhassett, Julie Bernhardt & Neil J. Spratt
This study aimed to investigate rehabilitation staff perceptions of factors influencing stroke survivor activity outside of dedicated therapy time for the purpose of supporting successful translation of activity promoting interventions in a rehabilitation unit. Purposive sampling of multi-disciplinary teams from four rehabilitation units was performed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted by telephone, digitally audio-recorded and then transcribed verbatim. A stepped iterative process of thematic analysis was employed until data saturation was reached. All but one...

Degradation of Tetrabromobisphenol S by thermo-activated Persulphate Oxidation: reaction Kinetics, transformation Mechanisms, and brominated By-products
Lu Wang, Yaqun Yu, Guoqiang Liu, Baowei Hu & Junhe Lu
Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are a group of contaminants of emerging environmental concern. In this study, systematic exploration was carried out to investigate the degradation of tetrabromobisphenol S (TBBPS), a typical emerging BFRs, by thermally activated persulfate (PDS) oxidation. The removal of 5.0 μM TBBPS was 100% after 60 min oxidation treatment under 60°C. Increasing the temperature or initial PDS concentration facilitated the degradation efficiency of TBBPS. The quenching test indicated that TBBPS degradation occurred...

Speech Pathology programs usually send students to workplaces to learn clinical skills necessary for practice. During COVID-19, programs needed to respond quickly to ensure that students continued to gain the necessary experiences and skills required to progress through their program and graduate as clinicians, while simultaneously complying with COVID-19 requirements. Case studies from seven different universities in Australia, Ghana and Hong Kong described the diverse ways in which placements were adapted to be COVID-safe, taking...

To evaluate Australian early-career general practitioners’ perceptions of the utility of their prior vocational training in preparing them for independent specialist practice. We hypothesised that in-practice teaching would be perceived as more useful than formal education delivered by Regional Training Organisations (RTOs). A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study of early-career general practitioners (RTO ‘alumni’). The outcomes were Likert scale ratings of alumni’s perceived impact of RTO education versus in-practice training on their preparedness for independent practice. Ratings...
