Finite-element Analysis of Cotton Serrated Ginning State Based on Three-dimensional Braided Modeling
Di Wang, Xiaochuan Chen, Yong Li, Jun Wang & Yiping Qiu
In order to analyze the stress state of the seed cotton in the process of ginning cotton, a theoretical model for cotton, namely three-dimensional braided cotton was developed. The model consists of cotton fiber bundles arranged according to the unit cell structure of a three-dimensional four-directional braided composite material. The fiber bundle has a circular section and the shape of the cross section remains unchanged along the axial direction. Based on this model, the serrated...
Frequency-constrained truss optimization using the fruit fly optimization algorithm with an adaptive vision search strategy
Shuang Liu, Hongping Zhu, Zhijun Chen & Hongyou Cao
This study proposes a memory-based search strategy for the fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA) to enrich its search ability, and utilizes an improved Deb (IDeb) rule to tackle the constraints and increase the computational efficiency of the FOAs. Unlike other FOAs that employ a predefined search radius, the proposed search strategy mines the knowledge of both the swarm and the individuals to adaptively determine the vision search radius of each fruit fly. The improved Deb...

Microorganisms are used to alleviate heavy metal stress in plants cultivated in contaminated fields. However, the relevant mechanisms have been rarely explored. The goal of this study was to investigate effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Funneliformis mosseae and two Cd-resistant bacterial strains (Enterobacter sp. EG16 and Enterobacter ludwigii DJ3) on growth and Cd tolerance of tomato when applied with different inoculation strategies (single or dual) and Cd concentrations (50 and 100 mg kg−1). Better plant...
The role of DRP1 in ropivacaine-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and neurotoxicity
Yan Chen, Lili Yan, Yan Zhang & Xianhui Yang
Ropivacaine is a commonly used local anaesthetic, but its side effects remain largely unknown. In the present study, we investigated the side effects of ropivacaine in human neuronal SH-5Y5Y cells. We show that 0.5% and 1% ropivacaine could cause fission-like mitochondrial morphological changes. Ropivacaine exclusively induces mitochondrial fission protein DRP1, generation of ROS and causes mitochondrial dysfunction including decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential, the activity of cytochrome C oxidase and ATP production. The side effects of...

EGFR promotes the proliferation of quail follicular granulosa cells through the MAPK/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway
Yan Wu, Hongwei Xiao, Jinsong Pi, Hao Zhang, Ailuan Pan, Yuejin Pu, Zhenhua Liang, Jie Shen & Jinping Du
Follicles develop into preovulatory follicles during folliculogenesis and the majority of small yellow follicles become atretic and gets reabsorbed. In this study, based the RNA-seq results of duck ovary, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) was selected as a candidate gene in follicular development and the role was explored. The results demonstrated that EGFR-P8 was the quail EGFR core promoter. It had an E2F4 binding site within EGFR core promoter. E2F4 overexpression significantly increased EGFR expression...

Sevoflurane suppresses migration and invasion of glioma cells by regulating miR-146b-5p and MMP16
Le Zhang, Jun Wang, Zhijie Fu, YanQiu Ai, Yanrong Li, Ying Wang & Yanping Wang
Glioma is the most common brain tumor with poor prognosis all over the world. Anesthetics have been demonstrated to have important impacts on cell migration and invasion in different cancers. However, the underlying mechanism that allows anesthetics-mediated progression of glioma cells remains elusive. Sevoflurane (Sev), a class of common anesthetics, was used to expose to U87-MG and U251 cells. The expressions of microRNA-146b-5p (miR-146b-5p) and matrix metallopeptidase 16 (MMP16)were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain...
