Patients with depression have a high prevalence of developing dyslipidemia. In this study, we aim to investigate the difference of serum lipids, including total cholesterol (TCH), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides (TG), between the depressed patients and healthy controls. Sex differences in lipids and their psychological correlations were also included. The study included 56 healthy controls (males/females = 26/30) and 110 first-diagnosed drug-naïve outpatients (males/females = 35/75). A total of...

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) include the transition and transversion of a single base. In this study, we found two cSNPs (rs110757796 and rs110652478) in the FABP4 (fatty acid-binding protein 4) gene and tested their population genetic parameters in five Chinese cattle breeds. FABP4 is a key marker molecule for lipid production. It plays a crucial role in the growth and development of animals. Thus, we also analyze the association between the two cSNPs of FABP4...
Accumulation and translocation of selenium in a soil–rice system in Guangxi, China
Zhen Wang, Fei Pang & Wei Huang
Selenium (Se) is an essential element for the human body. Humans meet their basic Se requirements primarily through food consumption. The largest Se-rich contiguous area in China is located in the southeast of Guangxi. In this study, the Se accumulation and translocation in the Guangxi rice–soil system was assessed. Organically bound Se (O-Se) was found to be the main type of soil Se (72.5%), and had a good linear relationship with soil total Se (TSe)...

Yuyu Liu, Yuqing Feng, Xin Jiang, Shiguo Xu, Lin Zhu & Guoqing Sang
The amount of total suspended solids (TSS) is the most visible indicator for evaluating water quality in reservoirs. Previous investigations paid more attention to TSS of the surface layer in reservoirs, while suspended particles are prone to settle, resuspend, and aggregate at the bottom of reservoir. There may be different patterns of the TSS in different depths. This study is to assess the TSS concentration by weight analysis, find the evidence of the existence of...

Preparation, Characterization of Carboxyl Polyaldehyde Sugars and Application as Innovative Anti-crease Finishing Agents for Cotton Fabric
Jiangfei Lou, Dan Wang & Xuerong Fan
We have designed and prepared four new cellulose cross-linking agents using NaClO/NaBr/TEMPO and sodium periodate selective catalytic oxidation systems. First, the primary hydroxyl group of sucrose, trehalose, maltose, or lactose was carboxylated through NaClO/NaBr/TEMPO system, and then sodium periodate was used to selectively oxidize the carboxyl compound to obtain carboxyl polyaldehyde sugars. They contained multiple aldehyde groups and carboxyl groups in the molecule, had high reactivity, and can be covalently cross-linked with cellulose. To evaluate...

Ferritinophagy is involved in the zinc oxide nanoparticles-induced ferroptosis of vascular endothelial cells
Xia Qin, Jun Zhang, Bin Wang, Ge Xu, Xi Yang, Zhen Zou & Chao Yu
Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) hold great promise for biomedical applications. Previous studies have revealed that ZnONPs exposure can induce toxicity in endothelial cells, but the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we report that ZnONPs can induce ferroptosis of both HUVECs and EA.hy926 cells, as evidenced by the elevation of intracellular iron levels, lipid peroxidation and cell death in a dose- and time-dependent manner. In addition, both the lipid reactive oxygen...

Yuxin Ran, Dongni Huang, Youwen Mei, Zheng Liu, Yunqian Zhou, Jie He, Hanwen Zhang, Nanlin Yin & Hongbo Qi
Preterm birth (PTB) is an immune-inflammatory disease that needs to be resolved. This study aimed to identify the role of interleukin-27 (IL-27), an immunomodulatory factor, in PTB and its associated mechanisms. Here, we analyzed the high-throughput of samples data from the maternal-fetal interface to the peripheral circulation obtained from public databases and reported that the elevated IL-27 was involved with the onset of PTB. Further bioinformatics analyses (e.g. GeneMANIA and GSEA) revealed that IL-27 overexpression...
