COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection and was initially discovered in Wuhan. This outbreak quickly spread all over China and then to more than 20 other countries. SARS-CoV-2 fluorescent microsphere immunochromatographic test strips were prepared by the combination of time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay with a lateral flow assay. The analytical performance and clinical evaluation of this testing method was done and the clinical significance of the testing method was verified. The LLOD of SARS-CoV-2 antibody IgG...

Mechanism of bluish pigment formation in lotus rhizome starch with ferrous sulfate and its application in rapid detection of adulteration
Jie Wang, Yanzhao Liu, Jie Li, Ying Diao, Zhongli Hu & Shoulei Yan
Lotus rhizome starch (LRS) is an important traditional processed product of lotus rhizome in China due to its good taste and high nutritional value. However, adulterated lotus rhizome starches are prevalent on the market. In this study, a novel method for the rapid detection of adulteration in LRS based on color reaction between ferrous sulfate (FS) and (-)-gallocatechin (GC) in LRS was studied. The polyphenols in LRS were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) as...
Petrogenesis of Neoproterozoic mafic dykes in western Yangtze Block, South China: implications for the assembly and break-up of Rodinia
Fuhao Xiong, Qing Liu, Mingcai Hou & Shengwu Yan
Neoproterozoic mafic dyke swarms are an important probe for reconstructing the evolutionary history of the Rodinia supercontinent. Here, we present detailed geochronological, geochemical, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic data to constrain the petrogenesis and geodynamic setting of Neoproterozoic mafic dyke swarms in the western Yangtze Block, South China. Petrological and zircon U–Pb dating studies reveal that the studied dykes mainly comprise subophitic-textured dolerite and intergranular dolerite with crystallization ages of ca. 823–817 Ma and ca. 795–794 Ma,...

Flow line of density functional theory in heterogeneous persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes for pollutant degradation: A review
Binghua Jing, Juan Li, Chunyang Nie, Junhui Zhou, Didi Li & Zhimin Ao
Persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes (P-AOPs), as the commonly used technologies, attract intensive attention, because persulfate is stable and safe with various activation methods, and the generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) are highly active. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations can analyze the intrinsic mechanism and specific pathways of P-AOPs at microscopic level, which is difficult to be realized in experiments. Recent DFT discoveries for P-AOPs have induced tremendous interest in persulfate activation or pollutant degradation pathways,...

We identified relapsing fever (RF) Borrelia in 1.45% (145/10426) of the ticks and 1.40% (40/2850) of the wild mammals in a field investigation in China. Three RF Borrelia species, including human-pathogenic Borrelia miyamotoi, Borrelia persica and unclassified Babesia sp. were determined. Main species determined from ticks was B. miyamotoi (44.14%), followed by the unclassified Borrelia sp. (42.76%), and Borrelia theileri (13.10%). In wild mammals, main species found was B. persica (57.50%), followed by the unclassified...

Colorful patterned polyacrylate films prepared using cholesteric liquid-crystalline mixtures with a smectic order
Fei Wang, Jinghua Zhao, Yi Li, Wei Liu, Hongkun Li & Yonggang Yang
Polymer-stabilised cholesteric liquid crystal (PSCLC) films with selective circularly polarised light reflection have attracted much attention for their applications as polarisers, energy-saving windows and for displays. Herein, CLC mixtures were prepared using a nematic LC LC242 and a chiral compound S-6 with enantiotropic SmA and SmC* phases, which exhibited a cholesteric phase with a smectic order. After photopolymerisation, the PSCLC films with fingerprint structure at the surfaces and supramolecular helical structure inside were obtained. Due...
A high-dimensional neural network potential for molecular dynamics simulations of condensed phase nickel and phase transitions
Hao Deng, Jeffrey Comer & Bin Liu
A high-dimensional neural network interatomic potential was developed and used in molecular dynamics simulations of condensed phase Ni and Ni systems with liquid–solid phase coexistence. The reference data set was generated by sampling the potential energy surface over a broad temperature-pressure domain using ab initio MD simulations to train a unified potential. Excellent agreement was achieved between bulk face-centred cubic nickel thermal expansion simulations and relevant experimental data. The same potential also yields accurate structures...

Three dimensional Ti3C2Tx and rGO hybrid supported Pt catalyst for the high performance hydrogen evolution reaction
Zhou Chang, Chenxi Xu, Ranran Wang, Wei Liu, Zuolei Zhu, Zhongwei Fang & Jigui Cheng
The effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline aqueous is critical point to reduce energy losses for water electrolysis. Here, a highly active and stable electrochemical catalyst of platinum (Pt) nanoparticles loaded on three-dimensional Ti3C2Tx-reduced graphite oxide (rGO) hybrid support (Pt/Ti3C2Tx-rGO3D) has been developed for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The large surface of 3 D support provides an adequate site for deposition of Pt nanoparticles, leading to superior HER activity with low overpotential...

Superior strength–ductility combination in Al alloys via dislocation gradient structure
Feng Wang, Yue Li, Xinren Chen, Huan Zhao, Khurram Yaqoob, Yong Du, Zhangwei Wang & Min Song
The precipitation hardening is widely applied to strengthen Al alloys. Here, we report an alternative way to achieve high-strength Al alloys via forming the dislocation gradient through pre-torsion. Remarkably, the gradient Al alloys exhibit a sharp increase in ultimate tensile strength up to 605 MPa yet nearly without reducing the uniform elongation, thereby outperforming their counterparts. The superior strength–ductility combination is ascribed to the excellent strengthening and strain hardening effects stemming from the substantial hetero-deformation-induced...
Discovery of potent tubulin inhibitors targeting the colchicine binding site via structure-based lead optimization and antitumor evaluation
Wei Liu, Youyou He, Zhongjie Guo, Miaomiao Wang, Xiaodong Han, Hairui Jia, Jin He, Shanshan Miao & Shengzheng Wang
The colchicine binding site of tubulin is a promising target for discovering novel antitumour agents. Previously, we identified 2-aryl-4-amide-quinoline derivatives displayed moderate tubulin polymerisation inhibitory activity and broad-spectrum in vitro antitumour activity. In this study, structure based rational design and systematic structural optimisation were performed to obtain analogues C1∼J2 bearing diverse substituents and scaffolds. Among them, analogue G13 bearing a hydroxymethyl group displayed good tubulin polymerisation inhibitory activity (IC50 = 13.5 μM) and potent antiproliferative...
