Combined radiofrequency ablation or microwave ablation with transarterial chemoembolization can increase efficiency in intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma without more complication: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Yao Yang, Hongli Yu, Lingyu Qi, Chenxi Liu, Yuemin Feng, Jianni Qi, Jie Li & Qiang Zhu
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA) are widely used in combination with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in clinical practice. We aim to compare the efficacy and safety of TACE combined with RFA or MWA versus TACE monotherapy for intermediate-stage HCC. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library for relevant studies. The outcomes included overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), local tumor control (LTC) rate, and major...

Zhou Chang, Chenxi Xu, Ranran Wang, Wei Liu, Zuolei Zhu, Zhongwei Fang & Jigui Cheng
The effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline aqueous is critical point to reduce energy losses for water electrolysis. Here, a highly active and stable electrochemical catalyst of platinum (Pt) nanoparticles loaded on three-dimensional Ti3C2Tx-reduced graphite oxide (rGO) hybrid support (Pt/Ti3C2Tx-rGO3D) has been developed for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The large surface of 3 D support provides an adequate site for deposition of Pt nanoparticles, leading to superior HER activity with low overpotential...

Jiachen Duan, Mengyuan Jin, Dongjing Yang, Jihua Shi, Jie Gao, Danfeng Guo, Hongwei Tang, Shuijun Zhang & Baoping Qiao
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma, the most common type of renal cancer, is associated with poor survival. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 2 regulates the molecular mechanisms of cancer cells. However, its mechanism in clear cell renal cell carcinoma remains unclear. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and immunohistochemistry were performed to assess ubiquitin-specific peptidase 2 expression in human clear cell renal cell carcinoma samples. Ubiquitin-specific peptidase 2 was weakly expressed in clear cell renal cell...

Muyu Feng, Jinming Liang, Peng Wang, Ya’e Wang & Jie Li
Sponge iron (SI) is widely used in water treatment. As effluents from wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) require advanced treatment methodology, three forms of constructed wetlands (CWs): wetlands with sponge iron (SI), copper sulfate modified sponge iron (Cu/SI), and sponge iron coupled with solid carbon sources (C/SI), have been investigated in this paper for the removal effects of organic matter and nutrients in WWTP effluents, and the corresponding mechanisms have been analyzed. The results showed the...
Acetylation of SCFD1 regulates SNARE complex formation and autophagosome-lysosome fusion
Hong Huang, Qinqin Ouyang, Kunrong Mei, Ting Liu, Qiming Sun, Wei Liu & Rong Liu
SCFD1 (sec1 family domain containing 1) was recently shown to function in autophagosome-lysosome fusion, and multiple studies have demonstrated the regulatory impacts of acetylation (a post-translational modification) on macroautophagy/autophagy. Here, we demonstrate that both acetylation- and phosphorylation-dependent mechanisms control SCFD1ʹs function in autophagosome-lysosome fusion. After detecting a decrease in the extent of SCFD1 acetylation under autophagy-stimulated conditions, we found that KAT2B/PCAF catalyzes the acetylation of residues K126 and K515 of SCFD1; we also showed that...

Diverse early diagenetic processes of ferromanganese nodules from the eastern Pacific Ocean: evidence from mineralogy and in-situ geochemistry
Rong Su, Fengyue Sun, Xiaohu Li, Fengyou Chu, Guosheng Sun, Jie Li, Hao Wang, Zhenggang Li, Cong Zhang, Weiyan Zhang, Xiaohan Gong & Yanhui Dong
Ferromanganese nodules are a potential energy resource because of their high contents of economically interesting elements (i.e. Mn, Ni, Cu, and Zn). These are higher in diagenetic layers than in hydrogenetic layers. The study of the causes of elemental accumulation in the diagenetic layer is useful for the exploration metal-rich nodules. A diagenetic-dominant ferromanganese nodule, from the central Clarion–Clipperton Fracture Zone of the eastern Pacific Ocean was studied from core to rim. It was divided...

Superior strength–ductility combination in Al alloys via dislocation gradient structure
Feng Wang, Yue Li, Xinren Chen, Huan Zhao, Khurram Yaqoob, Yong Du, Zhangwei Wang & Min Song
The precipitation hardening is widely applied to strengthen Al alloys. Here, we report an alternative way to achieve high-strength Al alloys via forming the dislocation gradient through pre-torsion. Remarkably, the gradient Al alloys exhibit a sharp increase in ultimate tensile strength up to 605 MPa yet nearly without reducing the uniform elongation, thereby outperforming their counterparts. The superior strength–ductility combination is ascribed to the excellent strengthening and strain hardening effects stemming from the substantial hetero-deformation-induced...
A high-dimensional neural network potential for molecular dynamics simulations of condensed phase nickel and phase transitions
Hao Deng, Jeffrey Comer & Bin Liu
A high-dimensional neural network interatomic potential was developed and used in molecular dynamics simulations of condensed phase Ni and Ni systems with liquid–solid phase coexistence. The reference data set was generated by sampling the potential energy surface over a broad temperature-pressure domain using ab initio MD simulations to train a unified potential. Excellent agreement was achieved between bulk face-centred cubic nickel thermal expansion simulations and relevant experimental data. The same potential also yields accurate structures...
