Geomorphology of coralligenous reefs offshore southeastern Sicily (Ionian Sea)

Coralligenous (C) include calcareous build-ups of biogenic origin, formed since the Holocene transgression. Peculiar columnar-shaped C outcrops were documented offshore Marzamemi village (SE Sicily, Ionian Sea), although the actual extension and distribution were not assessed. Project ‘CRESCIBLUREEF’ produced a new, 17 km2 high-resolution bathymetric map, leading to good knowledge about their extent in this area. C bioconstructions are largely distributed along two depth ranges 36–42 m and 86–102 m water depth. By coupling the documented...

The Zambezi River rises at the center of southern Africa, flows across the low-relief Kalahari Plateau, meets Karoo basalt, plunges into Victoria Falls, follows along Karoo rifts, and pierces through Precambrian basement to eventually deliver its load onto the Mozambican passive margin. The river is subdivided into segments with different geological and geomorphological character, a subdivision fixed by man’s construction of large reservoirs and testified by sharp changes in sediment composition. Pure quartzose sand recycled...

Association between hypertensive medication during pregnancy and risk of several maternal and neonatal outcomes in women with chronic hypertension: a population-based study

Anna Cantarutti, Gloria Porcu, Anna Locatelli & Giovanni Corrao
Several studies have reported an association between perinatal complications and the severity of the hypertensive disease. The increasing number of pregnancies complicated by hypertension and the small assurance about the perinatal effects of hypertensive drug use during pregnancy involves the need of studying the better management of hypertensive mothers. To evaluate the association between maternal use of antihypertensive drugs and maternal and neonatal outcomes in women with chronic hypertension. We conducted a population-based study including...

Analisi della pericolosità di frana dei versanti interni del Lago Albano

Antonio Patera & Andrea Fabbri
Lake Albano has a volcanic origin. It is located in the Quaternary volcanic district of the Colli Albani (Albani Hills) at approximately 20 Km from the metropolitan center of Rome. The volcanic edifice hosting the lake is characterized by gently inclined outer flanks and steep slopes in correspondence with the internal walls of the crater. Here is where much evidence is found of slope failures producing landslides. The presence of numerous dwellings and of recreational...
