Fig. S1 related to Figs. 3, 4. (A) (left) PSD modulation for the minimum contrast level (K = 0) of experimental (black) and simulated data for WT (orange, left) and FHM1 (green, right). $${\chi}_r^2=0.34$$ χ r 2 = 0.34 for WT and $${\chi}_r^2=0.28$$ χ r 2 = 0.28 for FHM1. (B) Cortical narrow band power modulation as a function of thalamic narrow band strength in the FHM1 model. The model was set with (red) and...

Probabilistic K-means with local alignment for clustering and motif discovery in functional data
Marzia A. Cremona & Francesca Chiaromonte
We develop a new method to locally cluster curves and discover functional motifs, i.e. typical shapes that may recur several times along and across the curves capturing important local characteristics. In order to identify these shared curve portions, our method leverages ideas from functional data analysis (joint clustering and alignment of curves), bioinformatics (local alignment through the extension of high similarity seeds) and fuzzy clustering (curves belonging to more than one cluster, if they contain...
Study on the effects of shoe cushioning on trail-running: perception, bench test and biomechanical approach
Isabella Soraruf, Vito Monaco, Massimiliano Sacchi & Matteo Cianchetti
This work aimed to investigate the association between the perceived cushioning of a set of trail-running shoes with both their mechanical response to the impact test and the acceleration of lower limb segments while running indoors and outdoors. Earlier studies have typically focussed on the effect of road-running shoe cushioning, whereas very few have examined the perception of trail runners and outdoor trail-running conditions. Seven trail runners were trained to become reliable in evaluating the...
Impact of decompressive craniectomy on functional outcome of severe acquired brain injuries patients, at discharge from intensive inpatient rehabilitation
Bahia Hakiki, Piergiuseppe Liuzzi, Gastone Pansini, Silvia Pancani, Annamaria Romoli, Francesca Draghi, Simone Orlandini, Andrea Mannini, Alessandro Della Puppa, Claudio Macchi & Francesca Cecchi
Decompressive craniectomy (DC) is a life-saving procedure conducted to treat refractory intracranial hypertension. Although DC reduces mortality of severe Acquired Brain Injury (sABI) survivors, it has been associated with severe long-term disability. This observational study compares functional outcomes at discharge from an Intensive Rehabilitative Unit (IRU) between sABI patients with and without DC. sABI patients undergoing DC before entering the Don Gnocchi Foundation IRU were compared with a group of sABI patients who did not...

Regional entrepreneurship and the structure of the banking market
Sara Moccia & Luca Pennacchio
This paper investigates whether local banking market structure affects regional entrepreneurship, measured by new firm formation. Considering provincial data over the period 2011–21 in Italy, we found that bank concentration and firm formation had an inverted ‘U’-shaped relationship. Lower levels of bank concentration fostered firm formation, but above a market share of about 58% for the largest banks, which is seen in the South and some peripheral and inner areas of central and northern Italy,...
