Two new alkaloids, phranisines A–B (1–2), along with two known compounds, N-p-Coumaroyl serotonin (3) and N-p-coumaroyl-tryptamine (4), were isolated from the roots of Phragmites australis. The structures of 1–4 were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic. The absolute configuration of compounds 1–2 were identified through quantum-chemical electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation compared with their experimental CD. All the isolated compounds were tested for their cytotoxic activities against HeLa and MCF-7 human cancer cell lines,...

University of Tuebingen, Germany

The Cenozoic exhumational evolution of the Southern Patagonian Andes and its potential tectonic and climatic controls remain poorly constrained. Here, we integrate 21 new and 73 published bedrock thermochronological ages with 3D thermo-kinematic modelling (Pecube) to quantify exhumation pulses in the Torres del Paine area. This approach is used to identify temporal and spatial variations in exhumation rates before and after the start of Late Miocene glaciation. Our new...

KI-Systeme und die individuelle Wahlentscheidung

Fake news, disinformation campaigns, upload filters or even election recommendation apps are not new phenomena - even in the run-up to elections. The importance of artificial intelligence (AI) for opinion-forming and individual voting decisions is playing an increasingly important role in this context and evokes two opposing reflexes in the debate: on the one hand, its potential raises great expectations; on the other hand, its use triggers numerous fears such as loss of control, abuse...

Selbstaufklärungsprozesse und Horizontverschiebungen. Zur Aktualität von Max Weber in China

Helwig Schmidt-Glintzer

Candidate gene (PHA-E) and phytohemagglutinin content in snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.): an association study

Xiaoxu Yang, Dajun Liu, Yanqiu Hu, Zhishan Yan, Chang Liu & Guojun Feng
Snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is low in fat and high in nutrients; however, it also contains toxigenic factors such as phytohemagglutinin (PHA), which is poisonous to humans. Here, we aimed to determine the distribution of PHA in natural populations of snap bean by analyzing a candidate gene (PHA-E) related to PHA content. Functional genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were then scanned to identify SNPs related to PHA content. A total of 150 snap bean...

Sozial eingestellt und / oder religiös?!

Valesca Baert-Knoll & Maike, Maria Domsel

‚Neutral‘ unterrichten? Eine Lektüre des Beutelsbacher Konsenses hinsichtlich der Positionalität von Politik- und Religionslehrpersonen

Simone Hiller & Julia Münch-Wirtz

Preeclampsia (PE) is a disorder that occurs during the pregnancy and could affect the maternal and perinatal mortality as well as morbidity. The aim of our study is to investigate the associations between the hypertension susceptibility genes ITGA9, MOV10 and CACNB2 with PE in Chinese Han population. A case–control study including 178 PE patients and 202 healthy controls was conducted to assess the associations between three loci (ITGA9 rs155524, MOV10 rs2932538 and CACNB2 rs4373814) and...

Self-assembled polymeric nanocarrier-mediated co-delivery of metformin and doxorubicin for melanoma therapy

Mingming Song, Wentao Xia, Zixuan Tao, Bin Zhu, Wenxiang Zhang, Chang Liu & Siyu Chen
Malignant melanoma is a life-threatening form of skin cancer with a low response rate to single-agent chemotherapy. Although combined therapies of metformin (MET) and doxorubicin (DOX) are effective in treating a variety of cancers, including breast cancer, their different physicochemical properties and administration routines reduce the effective co-accumulation of both drugs in tumors. Nanoparticles (NPs) have been demonstrated to potentially improve drug delivery efficiency in cancer therapy of, for example, liver and lung cancers. Hence,...

Wenn der Lehrer selbst den Griffel führt

Joachim Krause

Golde Wissner, Matthias Gronover & Friedrich Schweitzer
