Stabian Baths in Pompeii. New Research on the Archaic Defenses of the City

Mark Robinson, Monika Trümper, Clemens Brünenberg, Jens-Arne Dickmann, Domenico Esposito, Antonio F. Ferrandes, Giacomo Pardini, Alessandra Pegurri & Christoph Rummel
The plan of the Archaic city of Pompeii and the existence of a distinct walled Altstadt have been much debated in scholarship. The area of the Stabian Baths plays a key role in this debate. Based on a series of excavations in the palaestra of the baths, Heinrich Sulze (1940) and particularly Hans Eschebach (1970s) reconstructed a defensive wall and parallel ditch in this area. Eschebach also identified an Archaic street and city gate in...

Guadalupe-Tonantzin: una santa transcultural

Stephanie Schütze
pp. 166-178 Parting from an event at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe/ Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Des Plaines Illinois, near Chicago, this article shows how this sacred space acquired cross-cultural political significance for the struggle of Mexican migrants in the United States. It explores the connection between the religious symbol of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the political activism of Mexican migrants. Its political significance is a historically rooted notion that...

Öffentliche Güter im Recht der Europäischen Union

Christian Calliess

Is only one cognitive technique also effective? Results from a randomized controlled trial of two different versions of an internet-based cognitive behavioural intervention for post-traumatic stress disorder in Arabic-speaking countries

Maria Böttche, Birgit Wagner, Max Vöhringer, Manuel Heinrich, Jana Stein, Pirko Selmo, Nadine Stammel & Christine Knaevelsrud
Background: Internet-based cognitive-behavioural interventions seem to be effective for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Arabic-speaking countries in the MENA region. However, due to high prevalence rates of trauma-related mental disorders in this region, it is important to scale up existing Internet-based interventions in order to increase the number of clients. Objective: The aim of the study was to examine whether a brief Internet-based intervention with one cognitive technique (TF-short, 6 assignments) results...

Response of young patients with probable ICD-11 complex PTSD to treatment with developmentally adapted cognitive processing therapy

Rebekka Eilers, Eline Rimane, Anna Vogel, Babette Renneberg, Regina Steil & Rita Rosner
Background: ICD-11 features Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) as a new diagnosis. To date, very few studies have investigated CPTSD in young patients, and there is a need for evidence on effective treatment. Objective: The present study evaluates the applicability of developmentally adapted cognitive processing therapy (D-CPT) for CPTSD in young patients in a secondary analysis of the treatment condition of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) investigating the efficacy of D-CPT. Methods: The D-CPT treatment...

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic exposes individuals to multiple stressors, such as quarantine, physical distancing, job loss, risk of infection, and loss of loved ones. Such a complex array of stressors potentially lead to symptoms of adjustment disorder. Objective: This cross-sectional exploratory study examined relationships between risk and protective factors, stressors, and symptoms of adjustment disorder during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Data from the first wave of the European Society of Traumatic...

Multidimensional Measurement of Mobile Media Use

Roland Toth
Just like all types of media use, mobile media use is usually measured using retrospective, self-reported indications of quantity in the form of duration and frequency. This is not only problematic due to the fact that people misjudge their own use to a great extent, but also because theoretical approaches predominantly suggest that mere contact is not sufficient for the description of media use. This especially holds for mobile media use, as specific contact episodes...
