Depletion, Density, and Deposits through the mantle transition zone (MTZ)

Thorsten Joachim Nagel , Anders Vesterholt & Christian Schiffer
We present phase diagrams of variously enriched and depleted mantle rocks down to 800 kilometers depth and explore density as the parameter governing convection and compositional stratification. Some results are surprising and not all are included in present concepts and models: (1) Primitive and enriched mantle compositions are buoyant in the uppermost lower mantle compared to depleted mantle, especially, when they are warmer, but also at identical temperatures. Hence, if the upper mantle is depleted...

Acetylation of SCFD1 regulates SNARE complex formation and autophagosome-lysosome fusion

Hong Huang, Qinqin Ouyang, Kunrong Mei, Ting Liu, Qiming Sun, Wei Liu & Rong Liu
SCFD1 (sec1 family domain containing 1) was recently shown to function in autophagosome-lysosome fusion, and multiple studies have demonstrated the regulatory impacts of acetylation (a post-translational modification) on macroautophagy/autophagy. Here, we demonstrate that both acetylation- and phosphorylation-dependent mechanisms control SCFD1ʹs function in autophagosome-lysosome fusion. After detecting a decrease in the extent of SCFD1 acetylation under autophagy-stimulated conditions, we found that KAT2B/PCAF catalyzes the acetylation of residues K126 and K515 of SCFD1; we also showed that...

Recent trends in aroma release and perception during food oral processing: A review

Dandan Pu, Yimeng Shan, Juan Wang, Baoguo Sun, Youqiang Xu, Wangang Zhang & Yuyu Zhang
The dynamic and complex peculiarities of the oral environment present several challenges for controlling the aroma release during food consumption. They also pose higher requirements for designing food with better sensory quality. This requires a comprehensive understanding of the basic rules of aroma transmission and aroma perception during food oral processing and its behind mechanism. This review summarized the latest developments in aroma release from food to retronasal cavity, aroma release and delivery influencing factors,...

Nor-triterpenoids from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum and their inhibitory activity against FAAH

Dawei Li, Yueqi Leng, Zhengzheng Liao, Jinfang Hu, Yan Sun, Sa Deng, Chao Wang, Xiangge Tian, Jian Zhou & Ruoyu Wang
Two new nor-triterpenoids ganodrenol A (1), B (2), and a new natural product ganodrenol C (3), along with three known nor-triterpenoids (4–6) were isolated from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum. The chemical structures of these isolates were determined by 1 D and 2 D NMR, HRESIMS, and X-ray crystallography analysis. The inhibitory effects of isolated triterpenoids (1–6) against FAAH were evaluated by an in vitro assay, and compound 4 showed an inhibition rate of...

COVID-19 has affected more or less every nation across the world and affected the economy very badly. Infection of this virus in human took the life of millions. We have already faced the first and the second waves of COVID-19 and recently, the nations or humanity is afraid of new strain, that is, OMICRON. Considered to highly infectious than the previous strains. Therefore, the researchers are working to find a promising molecule with no or...

Active engagement of managers in employee RTW and manager-employee relationship: managers’ experiences of participating in a dialogue using the Demand and Ability Protocol

Katarina Aili, Magnus Svartengren, Katarina Danielsson, Elin Johansson & Therese Hellman
To describe how managers of employees on sick-leave, due to chronic pain conditions, experience participating in a three-party meeting using the Demand and Ability Protocol (DAP) in the return-to-work process. This study is based on individual semi-structured interviews with 17 managers of employees with chronic pain. Interviews were conducted after participating in a three-party meeting including the employee, manager, and a representative from the rehabilitation team. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis with an...

Development of a theoretical model for the inhibition of nsP3 of Chikungunya virus using pyranooxazoles

Durgesh Kumar, Kamlesh Kumari, Abhilash Jayaraj & Prashant Singh
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) causes Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) and till date no effective medicine for its cure is available in market. Different research groups find various possible interactions between small molecules and non-structural proteins, viz. nsP3, one of the most important viral elements in CHIKV. In this work, authors have studied the interactions of nsP3 of CHIKV with pyranooxazoles. Initially, a one-pot three-component reaction was designed using oxazolidine-2,4-dione, benzaldehyde and cyanoethylacetate to get a proposed biological...

Multiple logistic regression and linear mixed models were applied. Overall, 46.0% had elevated FeNO (>20 ppb) and 10.6% diagnosed asthma. Male gender (p = 0.002), parental asthma or allergy (p = 0.047), cat allergy (p = 0.009) and seafood allergy (p < 0.001), diagnosed asthma (p = 0.001), wheeze (p = 0.001), ocular...

The Death Spiral of T Pyxidis

Joseph Patterson, Arto Oksanen, Berto Monard, Robert Rea, Franz-Josef Hambsch, Jennie McCormick, Peter Nelson, Jonathan Kemp, William Allen, Thomas Krajci, Simon Lowther, Shawn Dvorak, Thomas Richards, Gordon Myers & Greg Bolt
We report a long campaign to track the 1.8 hr photometric wave in the recurrent nova T Pyxidis, using the global telescope network of the Center for Backyard Astrophysics. During 1996-2011, that wave was highly stable in amplitude and waveform, resembling the orbital wave commonly seen in supersoft binaries. The period, however, was found to increase on a timescale P/P-dot=3x10^5 yr. This suggests a mass transfer rate of ~10^-7 M_sol/yr in quiescence. The orbital signal...
