Chitosan-modified hollow manganese dioxide nanoparticles loaded with resveratrol for the treatment of spinal cord injury
Yingqiao Li, Zhiru Zou, Jinyu An, Qian Wu, Le Tong, Xifan Mei, He Tian & Chao Wu
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious central nervous system disease, and secondary injury, including oxidative stress, the inflammatory response and accompanying neuronal apoptosis, will aggravate the condition. Due to the existence of the blood–spinal cord barrier (BSCB), the existing drugs for SCI treatment are difficulty to reach the injury site and thus their efficacy is limited. In this study, we designed chitosan-modified hollow manganese dioxide nanoparticles (CM) for the delivery of resveratrol to help...
Probable post-traumatic stress disorder and harmful alcohol use among male members of the British Police Forces and the British Armed Forces: a comparative study
Patricia Irizar, Sharon A.M. Stevelink, David Pernet, Suzanne H. Gage, Neil Greenberg, Simon Wessely, Laura Goodwin & Nicola T. Fear
Background: British Armed Forces’ and Police Forces’ personnel are trained to operate in potentially traumatic conditions. Consequently, they may experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is often comorbid with harmful alcohol use. Objective: We aimed to assess the proportions, and associations, of probable PTSD and harmful alcohol use among a covariate-balanced sample of male military personnel and police employees. Methods: Proportions of probable PTSD, harmful alcohol use, and daily binge drinking, were explored using data...

Folate-functionalized SMMC-7721 liver cancer cell membrane-cloaked paclitaxel nanocrystals for targeted chemotherapy of hepatoma
Wenwen Shen, Shuke Ge, Xiaoyao Liu, Qi Yu, Xue Jiang, Qian Wu, YuChen Tian, Yu Gao, Ying Liu & Chao Wu
In this study, we prepared a folic acid-functionalized SMMC-7721 liver cancer cell membrane (CM)-encapsulated paclitaxel nanocrystals system (FCPN) for hepatoma treatment. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization showed that FCPN was irregular spherical shapes with a particle size larger than 200 nm and a coated thickness of approximately 20 nm. In an in vitro release experiment, FCPN indicated a slowly release effect of paclitaxel (PTX). Cell experiments demonstrated that FCPN was taken up by SMMC-7721 cells...

Dissipation wavenumber and regularity for electron magnetohydrodynamics
Mimi Dai & Chao Wu
We consider the electron magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) with static background ion flow. A special situation of B(x,y,t) = ∇× (a~e z) + b~e z with scalar-valued functions a(x,y,t) and b(x,y,t) was studied numerically in the physics paper [7]. The authors concluded from numerical simulations that there is no evidence of dissipation cutoff for the electron MHD. In this paper we show the existence of determining wavenumber for the electron MHD, and establish a regularity condition only...
