Surface engineering of MOFs-derived Co3O4 nanosheets for high-performance supercapacitorXuemin Yin, Huimin Liu, Kezhi Li & Jinhua Lu
In this work, hierarchical edge-rich Co3O4 nanosheets (e-Co3O4NSs) arrays were synthesised on the surface of Ni foam via a self-templating technique using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as precursors. The morphology and surface of Co3O4NSs could be tailed using the potassium hexacyanocobaltate solution. The synthesised e-Co3O4NSs shows that numerous small nanosheets were in-situ grown on the large nanosheet substrates, forming a core-shell structure, which could provide more active sites for electrochemical reactions. Benefiting from the structural superiorities,...
High-performance visible-light active Sr-doped porous LaFeO3 semiconductor prepared via sol–gel methodXi-Tao Yin, Hua Huang, Jie-Li Xie, Davoud Dastan, Jing Li, Ying Liu, Xiao-Ming Tan, Xiao-Chun Gao, Wahab Ali Shah & Xiao-Guang Ma
In this work, we have successfully fabricated Sr-doped porous LaFeO3 samples via sol–gel method. The results reveal that Sr2+ cation is effectively doped into LaFeO3 crystal lattice substituting La3+ cation. The visible light catalytic performance of the materials was evaluated by the degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and Rhodamine B (RhB). The amount-optimized Sr-doped porous LaFeO3 sample exhibited outstanding visible-light catalytic performance for the degradation of the model pollutants compared to the porous LaFeO3 alone. The...

Time-course RNA-seq analysis provides an improved understanding of genetic regulation in response to cold stress from white clover (Trifolium repens L.)Xueqi Zhang, Huanhuan Yang, Manman Li, Chao Chen, Yan Bai, Donglin Guo, Changhong Guo & Yongjun Shu
White clover (Trifolium repens L.) is an important legume forage, which is widely distributed in cool-season regions. Therefore, cold stress is a major environmental factor limiting its growth and production, while little is known about the its cold tolerance at molecular level. In the present study, we performed time-course RNA-seq analysis under cold stress. RNA-seq results suggested that genes associated with “oxidoreductase activity” and “transcription regulator activity” are more likely related to the response of...

Adsorption behaviour and mechanism of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons onto typical microplastics in a soil solutionZhen Li, Lina Sun & Hui Wang
Microplastics (MPs) have a tremendous potential to sorb hydrophobic organic contaminants in the soil environment. The effects of MPs in the soil systems, however, remain largely unexplored. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of polyethylene and polystyrene MPs on the transport of the benzo[a]anthracene (BaA) and benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in soil matrices. In this study, we investigated the sorption process of BaA and BaP in batch sorption experiments in a laboratory and...

Copper-dependent autophagic degradation of GPX4 drives ferroptosisQian Xue, Ding Yan, Xi Chen, Xiaofen Li, Rui Kang, Daniel J. Klionsky, Guido Kroemer, Xin Chen, Daolin Tang & Jinbao Liu
Ferroptosis is a type of iron-dependent regulated cell death characterized by unrestricted lipid peroxidation and membrane damage. Although GPX4 (glutathione peroxidase 4) plays a master role in blocking ferroptosis by eliminating phospholipid hydroperoxides, the regulation of GPX4 remains poorly understood. Here, we report an unexpected role for copper in promoting ferroptotic cell death, but not cuproptosis, by inducing macroautophagic/autophagic degradation of GPX4. Copper chelators reduce ferroptosis sensitivity but do not inhibit other types of cell...

Design and synthesis of a new bioactive compound for marine antifouling inspired by natural productsJiyong Zheng, Haiping Gao, Guanglong Zhang, Zhiyong Sun, Jinwei Zhang, Li Wang & Cunguo Lin
A marine antifouling compound, N-octyl-2-hydroxybenzamide (OHBA), inspired by ceramide and paeonol molecules, was created. First, methyl salicylate was synthesized with salicylic acid and methanol, followed by n-octylamine through an ester-amine condensation reaction. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry confirmed the characteristic structure of the OHBA compound. Bioassays showed that OHBA inhibits the growth of typical marine fouling organisms, such as Vibrio azureus, Navicula subminuscula, Ulva pertusa, Mytilus edulis, and Amphibalanus...
