High-flow nasal cannula versus nasal continuous positive airway pressure for respiratory support in preterm infants: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Hui Hong, Xiao-xia Li, Jing Li & Zhi-qun Zhang
Background: As a noninvasive respiratory support mode, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is widely used in preterm infants at neonatal care units. HFNC is often used as an alternative to nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) for initial or post-extubation respiratory support. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of HFNC and NCPAP for respiratory support in preterm infants. Methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library,...

Ribociclib (LEE011) suppresses cell proliferation and induces apoptosis of MDA-MB-231 by inhibiting CDK4/6-cyclin D-Rb-E2F pathway

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) stands for a refractory subtype, which predicts poor prognosis and has no effective therapies yet for improving it. Given the restrictions of traditional treatments, novel therapeutic strategies need excavating to alleviate the intrinsic or acquired resistance. Ribociclib, a selective CDK4/6 inhibitor, has successfully prevented cancers from deteriorating by intervening the CDK4/6-cyclin D-Rb-E2F pathway, especially for estrogen receptor-positive (ER +) breast cancer. However, there still remains limited accessibility referring to TNBC. Performing...

We, the Editors and Publisher of the journal Artificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, have retracted the following article: Le Zhang, Jun Wang, Zhijie Fu, YanQiu Ai, Yanrong Li, Ying Wang & Yanping Wang (2019) Sevoflurane suppresses migration and invasion of glioma cells by regulating miR-146b-5p and MMP16. Artificial Cells, Nanomedicine, and Biotechnology, 47:1, 3306–3314, DOI: 10.1080/21691401.2019.1648282 Since publication, concerns have been raised about the integrity of the data in the article. When approached for an...

The role of DRP1 in ropivacaine-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and neurotoxicity

Yan Chen, Lili Yan, Yan Zhang & Xianhui Yang
Ropivacaine is a commonly used local anaesthetic, but its side effects remain largely unknown. In the present study, we investigated the side effects of ropivacaine in human neuronal SH-5Y5Y cells. We show that 0.5% and 1% ropivacaine could cause fission-like mitochondrial morphological changes. Ropivacaine exclusively induces mitochondrial fission protein DRP1, generation of ROS and causes mitochondrial dysfunction including decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential, the activity of cytochrome C oxidase and ATP production. The side effects of...

A study of the association between the sFlt-1/PIGF ratio and preeclampsia in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China

Guifeng Ding, Liu Liping, Duan Moli, Aibibula Wuliyeti, Zhou Shaohe, Wang Huijuan, Peng Chen, Chao Chen & Bai Guiqin
It was previously reported that the ratio of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) to placental growth factor (PlGF) can predict the clinical onset of preeclampsia. This study seeks to validate the association between ratios of sFlt-1/PlGF with preeclampsia and to identify the contribution of ethnicity across diverse populations of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Pregnant women were classified into those with preeclampsia (n = 136) and healthy controls (n = 350). Serum levels of sFlt-1...

Sevoflurane suppresses migration and invasion of glioma cells by regulating miR-146b-5p and MMP16

Le Zhang, Jun Wang, Zhijie Fu, YanQiu Ai, Yanrong Li, Ying Wang & Yanping Wang
Glioma is the most common brain tumor with poor prognosis all over the world. Anesthetics have been demonstrated to have important impacts on cell migration and invasion in different cancers. However, the underlying mechanism that allows anesthetics-mediated progression of glioma cells remains elusive. Sevoflurane (Sev), a class of common anesthetics, was used to expose to U87-MG and U251 cells. The expressions of microRNA-146b-5p (miR-146b-5p) and matrix metallopeptidase 16 (MMP16)were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain...
